Dozens of schools have to recruit more, including top schools and hot majors.
Up to this point, dozens of universities across the country have announced additional recruitment, including many top universities and many majors that are the "kings" of their groups.
A series of medical schools have to recruit thousands of additional students. Among them, Hanoi Medical University - the leading school in medical training, after decades of not recruiting any additional students, this year posted information about recruiting 80 more students for the social work major, even though this is a newly opened major.
Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy also recruited 203 additional students for 5 majors; Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine recruited 33 additional students for Medicine - the major considered the "king" of medicine and pharmacy; Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy recruited 130 additional students for 3 majors; Vinh University of Medicine recruited 113 additional students for Pharmacy - also a hot major; Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy had to recruit 210 additional students, including leading majors such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy... Many private universities that train in health care also have to recruit additional students for medical and nursing majors...
This year, some pedagogical schools also recruit additional students. Quy Nhon University recruits additional 5 pedagogical majors: Primary Education , Information Technology Pedagogy, Literature Pedagogy, History Pedagogy, Geography Pedagogy, although the standard scores for these majors range from 26.85 to 27.21. Ho Chi Minh City University of Education recruits additional 7 majors with 230 quotas.

Three military schools are recruiting additional students for the civilian system. Of which, the Military Science Academy recruits 73 students; the Logistics Academy recruits more than 240 students; and the University of Information and Communications recruits 40 students.
Many other public universities also have to recruit from hundreds to thousands of students such as: Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Banking Academy, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Aviation Academy, International University - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, University of Business and Administration - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Ton Duc Thang University, Nha Trang, Hanoi University of Industry, Vinh University of Industry, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Hanoi Natural Resources and Environment...
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, this year there are 849,544 candidates registering for university admission, with a total of about 7.6 million wishes, each candidate registering on average nearly 9 wishes.
Why do we need to recruit more?
It seems that every year, lower-ranking private and public universities recruit more students, even having to recruit in the second round. However, this year, it is quite strange that many top universities and majors have to recruit more students. For example, the field of education has been very "hot" in the past 3-4 years, attracting a large number of students thanks to factors such as tuition-free policies, living expenses, the ability to find a job after graduation, and the salary and income of teachers constantly improving.
The question is why do schools have to recruit more candidates, where have the candidates gone? A university representative jokingly said that it is not clear where the candidates are, but the school has not recruited enough candidates so it is forced to recruit more.
Mr. Pham Thai Son, Director of Admissions at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that there are many reasons why schools do not have enough students to enroll and have to recruit more.
Firstly, because the quota of schools this year increased more than last year, opening new majors, while the number of candidates registering for university entrance exams has changed little. This forced schools to recruit additional batches to meet the quota.
Second, although the number of 850,000 candidates registering for admission on the system seems high, this number includes candidates registering for admission to colleges and vocational colleges, while the whole country currently has up to 400 colleges. Previously, the source of candidates on the system was universities and about 30 teacher training colleges.
Third, the biggest barrier for candidates today is tuition and university costs. In the context of rising prices and high tuition fees, many candidates, although registering for university, later have other options such as attending college or vocational training to save costs, graduate quickly, and have a job.
The head of the admissions department of a southern university said that the need to recruit additional students, even at hot schools and hot majors, was due to many schools using percentile conversion scores, leading to an increase in the standard scores converted to high school graduation exam scores, and candidates who had been admitted by other methods such as transcripts and ability assessments. In particular, schools in the health sector that only recruit based on high school graduation scores have run out of candidates. The unpopular majors of these schools are recruiting less than their quota. Another reason is that some schools have errors in the final virtual filtering stage, affecting the expected admission rate.
He said that now it is very difficult for schools to recruit more because the source is exhausted.
