Accordingly, recently, on the morning of December 23, Ms. NTH (born in 1979; living in Thep Moi Street, Giang Bien Ward, Long Bien District, Hanoi) received a video call via messenger from her son who is studying at a university in Ho Chi Minh City asking to transfer more than 100 million VND to pay for the study abroad registration fee. As a trained bank officer, Ms. H did not follow the subject's instructions.

Regarding the above trick, the Department of Information Security said that initially, the subjects collected images and videos such as: Searching for images and videos from the victim's social network accounts or other sources.

Then create fake videos: Use AI technology to combine faces and voices, create fake video calls of relatives/friends and then trick them into transferring money.

During the call, the subject gives urgent reasons such as accidents, debt, or need for financial support, requesting money to be transferred immediately to the account provided by them.

At the end of the year, the above scams will continue to become more complicated. The Department of Information Security ( Ministry of Information and Communications ) recommends that when people receive a phone call, they must first verify the information and call their relatives directly via the known phone number to check the information.

Do not rush to transfer money upon request in video calls or social media messages. Be careful when sharing personal information on social media, limit posting personal photos, videos and sensitive information.

Adjust your privacy settings to limit access to your account by strangers. Be wary of unfamiliar accounts or unusual behavior. If a family member or friend's account appears to have been hacked, notify them immediately and avoid interaction.

When encountering cases showing signs of fraud, people need to promptly report to the police to prevent and handle them according to the provisions of law.
