Record of pediatric patients with severe complications due to diphtheria

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên03/01/2024

Emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases recorded in Vietnam are: diphtheria, whooping cough, hand, foot and mouth disease, hospital infections and antibiotic resistance...; infectious diseases have been pushed back but recent outbreaks still appear.

The National Children's Hospital recently received and treated children with diphtheria in very serious condition, some of whom required ECMO.

In addition, viral infections (influenza, adenovirus, hand, foot and mouth disease, dengue fever) still have unpredictable developments; at the same time, some viruses that cause chronic diseases (EBV, CMV) and difficult-to-determine infectious causes that cause prolonged fever in children require updating new knowledge of pediatric infectious diseases.

According to the Hanoi Department of Health , last November, a 6-week-old baby girl with whooping cough was hospitalized in serious condition due to late diagnosis. The patient was properly diagnosed after 3 examinations.
