Parking fee at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine is more expensive than at shopping mall?

Many students reported that parking fees at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine (HCMC) are more expensive than parking in shopping malls. What does the school say?

Reflecting to Tuoi Tre Online , many students of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine (HCMC) said that the school's parking lot charges too high a fee, charged by the hour.

There are days when students have to pay 10,000 VND/time to park their vehicles while the parking lot has no roof.

According to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of December 3, right in front of the gate, the parking lot posted a sign stating that parking is only for students with student cards and does not accept parking for passenger vehicles.

On the price list there are three parking time frames with different prices.

For motorbikes, during the day (parking hours are determined from 6am to 6pm), for the first six hours students must pay 4,000 VND for each parking. After the first six hours, students will have to pay an additional 2,000 VND for each additional two hours.

From 6pm onwards, the parking lot considers it night time and charges 6,000 VND/trip. If a student parks the vehicle for six hours or more but less than 12 hours, and the parking time includes both day and night, the fee is 10,000 VND/trip.

In case of holding for 12 hours or more but less than 24 hours, the fee will be 14,000 VND/time.

For bicycles, the first 6 hours during the day cost 2,000 VND/trip, and for the next two hours students will pay an additional 1,000 VND. At night, the parking lot charges 4,000 VND/trip.

Student P., a first-year student at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, said that sometimes he had to pay 4,000 VND to go to school in the morning, but sometimes he had to pay 5,000 VND/time to park his motorbike.

According to P., morning classes usually last no more than 6 hours, if added up as listed, the price is up to 6,000 VND.

Meanwhile, T., a first-year student in the maxillofacial department, said that there were days when he studied all day and only picked up his car late at night, and the parking lot charged him tens of thousands of dong, which surprised many students. "The parking fee here is even higher than many shopping malls I've been to," T. complained.

T. also reflected that the attitude of the school's parking staff also made many students upset. T. said that some parking staff often yelled at students.

Confirming this, V., a second-year male student at the school, said that he had witnessed times when the bikes were stacked so close together that many female students could not get them out, but the staff did not help.

V. thinks that parking for more than ten thousand vehicles a day to go to school without a roof and being crowded like that is not appropriate.

Other students suggested that the school review and adjust the parking fee appropriately because many students are in difficult circumstances, and the daily parking fee of 10,000 VND is too high.

Parking price according to regulations

Regarding the reflection of students and trainees of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine about the school's parking lot charging too high fees, the Administrative Department of this university said that the above parking price is still in compliance with Decision No. 35/2018/QD-UBND dated September 21, 2018 on the maximum price of parking services invested by non-state budget capital in Ho Chi Minh City.

Specifically, the school signed a contract for the right to exploit the premises for parking lots in Area A, Area B, Area C, and the Medical Testing Center of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine with Minh Khang Support Services Company Limited on May 31, 2024, and an appendix to the contract for the right to exploit the premises on November 5, 2024 with this company.

Accordingly, if the total care time is 6 hours or more but less than 12 hours, and the care time includes both day and night, the day and night price is 10,000 VND. If the total care time is 12 hours or more, the day and night price is 14,000 VND.

In response to information from students claiming that parking fees are high, a representative of the board of directors of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine said they will immediately work with the parking lot operator.
