Northern pig price

The pig market in the North today, July 5, continues to maintain stability, with no new price adjustments in any locality. After many scattered declines in the past week, this region seems to be entering a temporary "price closing" phase.

Provinces such as Hanoi , Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai, Dien Bien, Son La all kept the price at 67,000 - 68,000 VND/kg, the most common in recent days.

Hai Phong continues to be the locality with the highest price in the region, maintaining the level of 69,000 VND/kg - one of the few places in the North to maintain the mark of nearly 70,000 VND/kg.

However, according to feedback from purchasing facilities, the amount of pigs brought to the market is not large, transactions mainly serve people's needs, there are no signs of purchasing for large-scale production or domestic export.

Pig price in Central region

The Central Highlands region is still the region with the lowest price level in the country. Data on July 5 shows that all provinces have no new fluctuations, maintaining the same price level as yesterday.

Gia Lai still recorded the lowest price of 65,000 VND/kg, with no signs of recovery. This price has been maintained for three consecutive sessions, causing much concern for local farmers.

In provinces such as Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri, Da Nang, Quang Ngai, Ha Tinh, the price of live pigs is commonly at 67,000 VND/kg. The Central region is currently stuck at the price range of 65,000 - 68,000 VND/kg, about 2,000 VND lower than the North and 3,000 - 5,000 VND lower than some southern provinces.

The fact that supply is still abundant while consumption in tourist cities has not improved is the reason why prices are difficult to rebound.

Southern pig price

The South continues to be the region with the best pork price in the country, although today there were no new fluctuations. Key provinces still maintained the same price as previous sessions.

Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, and Ca Mau maintain the highest prices in the region, at 70,000 VND/kg - a stable level that has lasted for nearly a week. This is considered a "support" for prices in the Southern region, in the context of many other localities slowing down.

An Giang, Tay Ninh, Can Tho, Tra Vinh are around 69,000 VND/kg, while Vinh Long, Dong Thap, Ben Tre are at 68,000 VND/kg - the lowest in the South.
Although there were no price increases, the stability in the highlands shows that the livestock-consumption chain in the South is operating quite well, helping the market not fall into a downward spiral like the Central region.

Pig prices today, July 5, recorded a stable state nationwide after a series of scattered declines in early July. The fact that localities did not adjust prices is considered a positive signal, showing that supply and demand are temporarily reaching a short-term equilibrium.

However, according to experts, the pressure from input costs - especially animal feed and veterinary medicine prices - is still very high, causing the profit margin of farming households to not improve significantly.

Meanwhile, pork consumption demand has not yet had a big boost, especially in supermarket and restaurant chains. Therefore, although the market is moving sideways, the possibility of a strong recovery cannot be confirmed in the short term.

It is forecasted that next week, if there are no major fluctuations in supply or purchasing power, the live hog market will likely continue to remain stable at the current price range, with the hope of support policies from localities and purchasing businesses.

Information from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province said that African swine fever has appeared in 6 localities in Quang Tri province and is continuing to spread widely. Professional sectors and localities are focusing on limiting the spread of the disease, according to Quang Tri Newspaper.

Accordingly, from May 28 to now, African swine fever has appeared in 21 villages/6 communes including: Kim Phu, Tan Thanh, Phong Nha, Quang Trach, Tan Gianh and Dong Le, the number of pigs that had to be destroyed was 451, with a weight of nearly 28 tons. Currently, the localities with the epidemic have not passed 21 days, in Phong Nha commune alone, the epidemic has occurred in 37 households/9 villages, with 247 pigs forced to be destroyed, with the risk of spreading strongly.

Head of the Quang Tri Province Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department Tran Cong Tam said that after detecting the epidemic, the unit coordinated with local authorities to announce the epidemic; supported the spraying of disinfectants in outbreaks and high-risk areas to control and prevent the epidemic from spreading widely.

Mr. Tam also said that the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province has asked households to regularly monitor information about epidemics, report immediately when pigs are sick or dead; not self-treat, not sell sick pigs and carry out good epidemic prevention and control work at small-scale livestock farms.

In particular, the unit has directed the affiliated Livestock and Veterinary Stations to continue to strengthen disease inspection and monitoring, instruct breeders to apply biosafety measures, and not increase or restore herds without ensuring disease safety conditions to avoid economic losses.
