Difficulties in genuine iPhone warranty in Vietnam

Apple smartphones are often popular models in the Vietnamese market, but recently users have continuously encountered difficulties when going to warranty iPhones with screen errors because the company refused with the reason "external intervention", even though the product is still intact and still has the default warranty period (12 months) of the manufacturer.

In early May, many users reported that the genuine iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max (VN/A code) had a blue screen error, but when brought to authorized dealers (AAR) and authorized warranty centers (ASP) in Vietnam, the warranty was denied because it was determined that "it had been interfered with from the outside" or "it had been illegally modified".

"We do not cover problems caused by unauthorized modifications," Apple's repair service summary reads.

However, users confirmed that the devices they bought and used were completely free of any external force that could cause damage, dents, or impact on the quality of the device. "The device works perfectly normally and I did not intervene or repair any details," an indignant user shared.

Speaking to Thanh Nien , a representative of an ASP revealed that iPhone screen errors have been occurring in recent times and show no signs of stopping. "In May alone, we received nearly 10 cases of iPhone 13 Pro Max screen errors brought in by users for warranty and all were rejected after being sent to Apple Vietnam's center," he said.

He also confirmed that there were cases where the unit's preliminary inspection showed no signs of external interference but the warranty was still not covered because Apple returned the result "illegally interfered". In some cases, the unit's representative said that they still tried to support users to send the device for verification again to "try their luck" even though they knew the possibility of being rejected the second time was very high.

Helpless when the warranty for iPhone screen errors seems to be "at a dead end", some AARs have come up with a solution that not only helps customers not suffer losses but also ensures the reputation of the business when fulfilling its commitment at the time of product delivery. Accordingly, if the device has exceeded the 1-for-1 exchange period due to manufacturer error and is denied warranty, AAR will negotiate to repair the device for free for customers through an outside service and ensure the same accompanying benefits.

In some other cases, recently iPhone repairmen in Vietnam have consulted the method of "splicing the wire" to "save" the screen. Accordingly, the iPhone screen error is determined to be due to overheating during the use of the 120 Hz refresh rate, leading to a broken cable neck. The repairman will solder a super thin copper wire connecting the two parts of the screen circuit to "borrow pressure" and help the device display again. Many people confirm that this method has the advantage of being cheap, only under 1 million VND instead of spending 8 - 10 million VND to replace the screen, but the disadvantage is that it is not durable and the device can only operate at a 60 Hz screen refresh rate instead of 120 Hz as designed.

Meanwhile, Apple and its representative company in Vietnam continue to remain silent on this issue. Thanh Nien Newspaper has contacted Apple Vietnam's representative regarding the iPhone warranty issue as well as the rights of domestic consumers when using genuine products. Apple confirmed that it has recorded the cases as reported by the media, but remained silent, not giving any response regarding the warranty or user rights.
