Hoang said on the evening of September 29: "I had a strategy for this distance when I was conserving energy in the first laps. At the end of the race, when I had the chance, I decided to speed up to finish in 3rd place."

Huy Hoang was surprised when he finished 3rd in the 400m freestyle event.

Huy Hoang admitted: "I am very happy and pleased to win a medal in this distance. I myself am surprised. I would like to thank my relatives, friends and coaches who have accompanied me during the past time. It is everyone's sharing that has helped me overcome the pressure to compete better and win another bronze medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation."
