Google Bard Lets Users Create Free Images to Compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT

Google has positioned Bard as a worthy competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus, which runs GPT-4 and allows users to create images thanks to its DALL-E 3 integration. Both chatbots work well, but Bard's lack of a text-to-image feature gives ChatGPT Plus an edge. People can use the updated Bard with Imagen 2 for free, unlike ChatGPT Plus, which requires a subscription and fee, according to The Verge .

AI image generation has come under fire recently after pornographic photos of singer Taylor Swift were posted on X (formerly Twitter). While it is not yet known which platform the creators of the fake photos were using, several tech companies have blocked the image generation platform.

Google said Bard's image capabilities were "designed responsibly." The company's watermark will be embedded into every pixel of the image, making it easier for viewers to tell that the image was created by AI. Google also said it has implemented technical and safety safeguards to avoid creating images of celebrities and to limit violent, offensive, or sexually explicit content.

Image creation won't be limited to Bard. Google has released a new experimental photo tool powered by Imagen 2 called ImageFX - which lets users create images using simple text prompts so they can experiment with generative AI. Like Bard, all images created through ImageFX will be SynthID-labeled and adhere to Google's AI guidelines and technical barriers. Image creation is currently only available with English commands.
