Vietnamese professor elected as member of European Academy of Sciences

TPO - Prof. Dr. Hoang Xuan Phu, Institute of Mathematics (under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) has just been elected as an academician of the European Academy of Sciences. Previously, he was an academician of four other prestigious academies.

On May 19, 2025, the website of the European Academy of Sciences officially announced that Professor Hoang Xuan Phu became a new member of the Academy.

Previously, on April 9, 2025, the President of the European Academy of Sciences respectfully announced that Prof. Dr. Hoang Xuan Phu, Senior Researcher of the Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, was elected as a Non-EU Member/Fellow of the Academy.

In the letter from Professor Rodrigo Martins - President of the European Academy of Sciences to Professor Hoang Xuan Phu, there is a paragraph: "This election was approved by the Council of the Academy after a rigorous evaluation process, demonstrating the highest recognition for the Professor's outstanding scientific contributions and international position."

The European Academy of Sciences is an independent, merit-based academy, bringing together outstanding scientists, engineers and scholars from a wide range of fields.

The mission of the European Academy of Sciences is to promote excellence in science and technology, to advocate for evidence-based policy making and to strengthen transnational scientific cooperation.

In addition to the European Academy of Sciences, Professor Hoang Xuan Phu is an academician of four other prestigious academies including the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences (Heidelberger Akademie der Wissenschaften), the Bavarian Academy of Sciences (Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften), the World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries (TWAS - The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries) and the German Academy of Technical Sciences (acatech - Deutsche Akademie der Technikwissenschaften).

Professor Hoang Xuan Phu's main research interests are optimization, optimal control, numerical analysis and scientific computing.

During his scientific career, he has held many important scientific positions and responsibilities, typically as a Representative of Asia in the Commission for Developing Countries of the International Mathematical Union (2011-2014), a member of the Editorial Board of 06 prestigious international journals specializing in Mathematics, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Journal of Mathematics (2011-2022) and is currently the Honorary Editor-in-Chief of this Journal.

As of 2024, Vietnam Journal of Mathematics is one of six journals of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology listed in the Scopus and WoS systems.

Professor Hoang Xuan Phu took a photo with young delegates attending the Optimization and Scientific Computing Conference 2025.

Prof. Dr. Hoang Xuan Phu is also the chair of 7 international scientific conferences on high performance computing and 23 annual scientific workshops on optimization and scientific computing (from 2003 to present).

These conferences and seminars are all large-scale and are truly academic forums for scientists, lecturers, researchers and students at research institutes and universities to meet regularly and discuss the fields of optimization and scientific computing in particular and Mathematics in general.
