Successfully installed rotor of unit 2 of Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project

Vietnam Electricity (EVN) said that at 10:18 a.m. on October 7, at the construction site of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant expansion (Hoa Binh ward, Phu Tho province), EVN and Power Project Management Board 1 coordinated with contractors to successfully install the rotor of Unit 2 - an important milestone marking the completion of rotor installation of the entire project.

Previously, Unit 1 was successfully installed and connected to the grid on August 19, 2025, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.

The rotor of Unit 1 and Unit 2 of the project weighs about 585 tons, is the rotating part of the generator - the key part in the power generation system. To ensure progress and quality, the stator assembly, rotor and turbine installation stages are all carefully checked and calculated in every detail by the investor, supervision consultant and construction unit, ensuring absolute safety throughout the implementation process.

The successful installation of the rotor of Unit 2 is an important step, creating a premise for the electromechanical installation, testing and operation phase, aiming to generate electricity for Unit 2 in November 2025 and complete the entire project in 2025, practically welcoming the 14th National Congress of the Party.

The Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project is an important national project, approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 389/QD-TTg dated April 10, 2018. The investor is Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), the investor representative is Power Project Management Board 1.

The project has a construction scale of 2 units, total capacity of 480 MW (2 x 240 MW), average annual electricity output of about 490 million kWh, with a total investment of more than 9,220 billion VND.

The project is built on the right bank of the existing Hoa Binh hydroelectric dam, in Phuong Lam, Thai Binh , Thai Thinh wards, now Hoa Binh ward (Phu Tho province). The joint venture of Truong Son Construction Corporation - Construction Joint Stock Company 47 - Lilama 10 Joint Stock Company is the main construction unit.

Upon completion, the project will increase the capacity to cover peak capacity for the national power system, improve the efficiency of exploitation and frequency regulation - stabilize the system frequency, reduce the working intensity of existing generators, thereby prolonging the life of equipment, saving maintenance costs, contributing to the safe, stable and more economical operation of the national power system.
