Hanoi strengthens cooperation with New Zealand localities

At the reception, the Ambassador thanked the city leaders for their welcome as well as the support and coordination of the City People's Committee for the activities of the New Zealand Embassy in recent times, contributing significantly to strengthening and promoting relations between the two countries.

Sharing with the city leaders, Ambassador Caroline Beresford said that New Zealand places high priority on deepening relations with countries, thereby giving priority to the Southeast Asia region in general and Vietnam in particular. This spirit was also unified through her contacts with senior leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam, aiming to elevate the strategic partnership between the two countries.

On that basis, the Ambassador affirmed that he will continue to work actively in his position to promote this expectation of the two governments .

Recognizing that cooperation with Hanoi is a solid foundation for future steps, the Ambassador wishes to hear about Hanoi's upcoming development priorities. At the same time, he shared that 2025 is the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and New Zealand, with many events scheduled to take place in Hanoi, so he hopes to receive support from the City government.

For his part, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh highly appreciated the cooperative relationship between Hanoi and New Zealand localities and partners, on the basis of the overall good relationship between the two countries in recent times.

Regarding Hanoi, Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh informed that the capital is focusing on building and perfecting institutions and development policies to create and allocate development space for the capital Hanoi in the coming time.

In particular, the National Assembly recently passed the Law on the Capital (amended) and in the near future, the city will continue to report on accelerating the approval of the Capital Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050; Adjusting the Capital's master plan to 2045 with a vision to 2065. These are important legal bases that will create outstanding mechanisms and policies for Hanoi to promote its advantages, develop rapidly and sustainably with a new stature and position.

Informing that the capital is also interested in education because of the great demand of the people, the Chairman of the City People's Committee proposed that New Zealand continue to create conditions to increase direct links between educational and training establishments; organize cultural and educational exchange programs for high school students of Hanoi and New Zealand...

The city's leaders shared that Hanoi is also promoting the cultural values ​​of its thousand-year-old heritage, in parallel with the integration and development process with the goal of building a cultural industry.

These are the areas in which Hanoi hopes to cooperate with interested and strong international partners and friends, including New Zealand. He also hopes that Hanoi and New Zealand cities and localities will increase people-to-people exchanges, especially with the younger generation, in the coming time to strengthen the friendship between the two countries.

Sharing that the upcoming “Cultural Festival for Peace” will be held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the capital with thousands of people, the city leaders also sent an invitation to the New Zealand Embassy representative to this meaningful event; at the same time, affirmed that Hanoi is ready to coordinate and accompany the New Zealand Embassy in implementing activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of relations between the two countries.

On this occasion, the head of the City People's Committee expressed his hope that the Embassy and the new Ambassador would continue to promote their role as a bridge, promoting exchanges and mutual understanding between the people of the two countries as well as the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two capitals of Hanoi and Wellington to become increasingly deeper, more practical and effective.
