“Journey of love” for a bright future

Anyone who goes up to the Dong Van stone plateau, Ha Giang province, across the Tham Ma slope will see a three-way intersection with one road going up to Pho Cao, the other down to Van Chai, and the remaining small road going to Lung Thau. Ca Lung school is nestled on the slope, surrounded by vast clouds and sky, everywhere you look you see the dark green of forest trees and mountain rocks.

The school has 2 classes, with a total of 52 students aged 3-5. Every morning, the students' meals are cooked at the main school and brought here by tricycle. After the children have finished eating, the school's kitchen assistant pulls the cart with the bowls and chopsticks outside. When the dry season comes, the water source gradually dries up, so all the activities of the teachers and students depend on the old rainwater tank behind the house.

Several times a day, the two teachers would step onto the stone used as a footrest, try to lift the heavy concrete lid, and carry a few buckets of water for the children to wash their faces and clean their little feet that were covered in mud on the way to class. Despite the difficulties, the teachers still went to class regularly every day.

The highland children have cheeks as red as ripe apples and are very diligent in going to school. Their spelling words sometimes resonate in the quiet schoolyard, and sometimes echo through the vast mountains and forests.
