"Rashford is sick. He missed the training session before the match. Therefore, playing in the match against Bournemouth is unlikely," coach Erik ten Hag said in a press conference before the match on December 8.

Rashford is ill, but is likely being punished by coach Erik ten Hag for his attitude on the pitch

On December 8, coach Erik ten Hag, midfielder Harry Maguire and young striker Alejandro Garnacho received the titles of coach, player and best goal scorer of November respectively. The hat-trick of titles in November and right after the 2-1 win over Chelsea on December 7 helped MU Club regain its spirit significantly from the shock of losing to Newcastle (0-1).

Rashford was heavily criticised for his lacklustre performance against Newcastle, with the £350,000-a-week star also reacting to Erik ten Hag's instructions on the pitch.

In the match against Chelsea, Rashford was benched for the first time this season by coach Erik ten Hag. The Dutch coach used Alejandro Garnacho to start with Rasmus Hojlund in attack, next to Antony.

"This change helped MU's attack play better and create an overwhelming situation against Chelsea, winning 2-1 thanks to a double from McTominay (Garnacho contributed 1 assist). This is also the reason for coach Erik ten Hag's decision to let Rashford sit out the upcoming matches, regardless of his condition. This coach has found a new formula for MU's attack and will continue to keep it that way," said MailOnline .

"Coach Erik ten Hag is definitely looking to punish Rashford. The inspiration from Harry Maguire could lead to the Dutch strategist's decision. He wants Rashford to return to a more positive way of thinking like last season and show his best form," former MU player Mark Hughes commented on MailOnline .

According to MailOnline : "It will be very difficult for Rashford and Martial to return to the main MU squad in the near future, unless they change their attitude in training and competition. Coach Erik ten Hag remains steadfast with his tough stance, as he is still helping MU achieve positive results in the Premier League."
