Recently, the British Embassy in Hanoi organized a series of events to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the UK Chevening Government Scholarships globally and 30 years in Vietnam with the participation of generations of Chevening alumni.

The British Embassy and Chevening alumni joined together to form the number 40 dragon boat on West Lake, symbolising the 40th anniversary of the UK Chevening Government Scholarships worldwide .
Alumni and Embassy staff also participated in garbage collection activities in the West Lake area, thereby creating a cleaner landscape and contributing more meaningfully to the anniversary.
Sustainable development is a key theme throughout the anniversary year of diplomatic relations between the UK and Vietnam, and was also the subject of a Chevening alumni roundtable discussion. Chevening alumni heard updates on Vietnam’s commitment to the COP28 United Nations Climate Change Conference, the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) Mobilisation Plan, and discussed ways to support the energy transition in Vietnam.

During the ceremony, British Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew reviewed 30 memorable milestones on the Chevening journey to generations of Vietnamese students, as well as the journey of the Chevening alumni community growing and connecting to create an excellent network of British students.
Over the past 30 years, Chevening Scholarships have been awarded to hundreds of students across Vietnam, bringing the dream of studying in the UK to individuals who make a positive impact on society. Let’s celebrate the 30-year milestone and look forward to the next generation of scholars on the upcoming journey of Chevening Vietnam.
