AMRI 16 is a forum for ASEAN Ministers in charge of information to discuss and provide directions and directions to promote cooperation between countries in the region in the fields of: press, radio and television; Internet (social networks, websites, internet-based communication) and raise awareness about ASEAN. The conference is part of the week of international events on information and communication in the ASEAN region hosted by the Ministry of Information and Communications in Da Nang City, from September 19-23, 2023.

In her welcoming speech at the opening ceremony of AMRI 16, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan said that the declaration of the 43rd ASEAN Summit recently provided orientations for building the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, developing self-reliant, creative, dynamic and people-centered, capable of seizing opportunities, solving emerging issues and challenges in the future. At the same time, it set out the task of consolidating identity, enhancing solidarity and unity in ASEAN. In that development process, along with the major trends of the times, cooperation in press and media information plays an important role in connecting and spreading values in the ASEAN community.

At the conference, Vietnamese Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that ASEAN's information and communications sector is taking on a new mission, proactively opening up a new space to jointly contribute to building a peaceful and prosperous ASEAN Community. This is a shift from information to knowledge and understanding. Leading this shift and succeeding in this new mission will be the contribution of ASEAN countries to the world's information and communications sector.

Mr. Ekkaphab Phanthavong - Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN shared that with the ASEAN region emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic, the information and communication sector plays an important and cross-cutting role in promoting the vision of the ASEAN community. Discussions in AMRI 16 and related forums and conferences will create more momentum for regional cooperation and strategic directions towards social, sustainable and inclusive development.
AMRI 16 unanimously chose the theme: "Communication: From Information to Knowledge for a Resilient and Responsive ASEAN". To respond quickly to change, we must quickly find new knowledge from change. To be resilient and recover from a major impact or disaster, we must be equipped with new knowledge. Therefore, our information and communication sector must transform from simply providing information and news to providing knowledge and understanding to people, helping them survive in a volatile, unpredictable and complex world.
