(NB&CL) 2024 is the year that the Vietnam Journalists Association has made many marks in the life of journalism, notably the 2024 National Journalism Conference held for the first time in Ho Chi Minh City with the focus being the National Press Forum; working trips to provinces and cities across the country to resolve difficulties for all levels of the Journalists Association; the inauguration and handover program of the restoration project of the National Historical Site of Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School with a profound meaning of returning to the "roots"...

1. The 2024 National Press Festival - held in Ho Chi Minh City - was one of the largest events of the press in 2024, with the participation of most central and local press agencies, Journalists' Associations of provinces and cities, imbued with the pioneering and innovative spirit of the Vietnamese press. The impression of the Press Festival comes from the smooth interweaving of professional activities such as press exhibitions, professional discussions with special cultural and artistic programs, awarding Spring Press Awards, the 3rd Journalists' and Public Opinion Cup Football Tournament, the music program "Convergence of Vitality"... In particular, the 2024 National Press Festival had the participation of 64 OCOP product booths from 50 provinces and centrally-run cities, showing the attraction and role of media - press in promoting regional economy and the accompanying development of press and businesses over the past year.

The most impressive and profound highlight of the Press Conference was that for the first time within the framework of the event, the National Press Forum was organized with large-scale professional activities with the participation of about 70 speakers who are experienced journalists, leaders of leading press agencies in Vietnam, prestigious international media experts to discuss important and urgent topics of the current Vietnamese Revolutionary Press. For the first time, the specialized professional issues of the press and media were "converged", becoming a unique and special "career meeting place". Career stories from the world to Vietnam, from tradition to modernity, from the challenges and pressures of the times to "turning around", innovating, seizing opportunities, finding the path "right under your feet"... are all extremely practical and useful.

As journalist Dong Manh Hung - Head of the Editorial Secretariat, Voice of Vietnam shared: "The National Press Forum has "touched" many hot and practical issues of today's press, especially many very good discussion sessions such as data journalism, journalism economics, improving cultural and professional ethics... Those are all contents that are not easy to talk about, but at this year's Press Conference, the issues have been highlighted, many practical directions have been found, so they have great appeal to journalists and the press public nationwide...". It can be said that this success continues to create momentum for the 2025 National Press Forum, which has just been assigned by the leadership of the Vietnam Journalists Association to the Journalists and Public Opinion Newspaper to help the Standing Committee prepare content from this point on.

One of the unforgettable highlights in the activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association in the past year, bearing a strong creative mark, was the 18th National Press Awards Ceremony. For the first time, the award ceremony was held in an open space, with outstanding journalism reports, creative and special art performances, all authors were honored, and were the center of the event... The organizing committee determined to innovate comprehensively, including changing the entire format of the program, from finding a new venue in an open direction, changing the awarding method, and "tailoring" special performances for the award ceremony. The program both maintained the political color of the program; did not let the performances obscure the awarding part but still created appeal for the public.

2. As a highlight in the exciting journey of the past year of the Vietnam Journalists Association, the inauguration and handover of the project to renovate the National Historical Site of Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School... left a lot of emotions. With the desire to continue to preserve and promote the value and historical stature of the Relic on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the School's founding, the Vietnam Journalists Association directed the establishment of a project to renovate and embellish the Relic Site of Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School from socialized capital...

Although most of the “old people” have passed away, a majestic and meaningful project built with passion, intelligence and responsibility has fully and convincingly restored and recreated the special training cradle, adding a meaningful destination on the map of contemporary Vietnamese journalism. The project has become a relic site, linked with historical and cultural sites of the Viet Bac war zone in the past, a meaningful “return to the source” point for the press community nationwide... That event also opened a series of events towards the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day that the Vietnam Journalists Association has been implementing.

The program "Lighting the Flame of Gratitude" is also one of the major milestones in the series of activities in the past year of the Vietnam Journalists Association. The highlight of which is the Memorial Service for 511 Heroic Martyrs of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalists at Au Lac Pagoda - Da Pagoda (Vinh City). The great contributions of the journalists - martyrs are shining examples, a reminder for every journalist today to make more efforts, determined to overcome difficulties, constantly innovate, be professional and make breakthroughs, and make positive contributions to the cause of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism... It is from this meaning that the Vietnam Journalists Association has set a plan in 2025 to build a Memorial House for 511 Martyrs of Journalists at Da Pagoda, Nghe An - contributing to creating another red address for Vietnamese revolutionary journalism.

The excitement of the last days of the Year of the Dragon was marked by the 17th Vietnam Journalists Association Table Tennis Championship - Sao Vang Cup 2024. The organizing committee of the 17th Vietnam Journalists Association Table Tennis Championship had many initiatives and innovations in the organization method, which received high appreciation from experts as well as athletes. In particular, the 17th season's organization process has been upgraded with the support of individuals and professional organizing units, constantly innovating. Through the competition moments, the technical and skillful balls demonstrated the efforts, dedication to sports, and the fierce competition of journalists across the country. To some extent, the Vietnam Journalists Association Cup Table Tennis Tournament has raised the spirit, created a new source of motivation for journalists to be more enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated to their writing career, with the mission of creating solid trust in the hearts of the public...

3. The "grassroots-oriented" program continues to be an impressive highlight in the activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association in the past year. Journalist Nguyen Duc Loi - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association affirmed: "2024, for the Vietnam Journalists Association, is a year of innovation, breakthrough, and the start of many key tasks, especially the preparation for the 12th Congress of the Vietnam Journalists Association. In 2024, we consider grassroots-oriented activities as one of the strategic and key activities...".

Last year, the working delegation of the Vietnam Journalists Association worked with leaders of provinces, cities and departments and branches of the provinces in Phu Yen, Nghe An, Can Tho... to continue to improve the role, quality and effectiveness of the activities of the local Journalists Association in the new situation, aiming at practicality, usefulness, and connection with the rights and interests of members. The trips helped the Association's leaders have an overview of the picture of press activities in the whole country and at all levels of the Association nationwide, thereby having a basis to report to the Secretariat and the Central Propaganda Department to resolve problems related to finance, human resources, budget...

It can be said that the "Towards the grassroots" business trips have been a special mark for a vibrant 2024 as well as the recent journey of activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association, successfully concretizing the spirit of "Proactive, creative, decisive and effective", towards members and journalists. Interwoven into the grassroots-oriented programs are a series of conferences and discussions that are elaborately organized, closely following current events in all regions such as the Conference on High-quality Journalism in the context of digital transformation to meet the new requirements of the National Press Awards Charter, Dissemination of Party policies, State laws on the Association and improving the quality of consulting in office work...

The basic highlights have partly shown the excitement of the past year, as well as the spirit of innovation and solidarity - gathering members and journalists in a "common house" full of camaraderie. It can be said that these activities have contributed to the successful completion of the political tasks of the Vietnam Journalists Association, helping to stabilize the ideological situation, and make the Associations at all levels in the country more united and unified.

4. Vietnam Journalists Association “Continuing to build a strong Association organization: Solidarity - Discipline - Innovation - Creativity - Development”; completing the entire program, holding Congresses at all levels towards the 12th National Congress of Vietnam Journalists Association, term 2025 - 2030”... will be the key highlights for 2025. To do so, the Vietnam Journalists Association has set many specific tasks to implement in the coming time.

Accordingly, the Party Delegation of the Vietnam Journalists Association is directing all levels of Journalists Associations nationwide to take steps to develop plans and organize the implementation of the 5-year review of the implementation of Directive No. 43-CT/TW of the Party Central Committee Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership over the activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association in the new situation; on that basis, there are recommendations and proposals to competent authorities on mechanisms and policies for press activities; activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association in the current context. Continue to consolidate and build a unified and tight organizational system of the Vietnam Journalists Association according to the Association's Charter. Continue to pay attention to, focus on, and strengthen the work of education, professional training, ethics, and skills for journalists and members of the Vietnam Journalists Association - considering this a key task of great significance for the strong and sustainable development of the press.

Continue to pay attention to and focus on the inspection and supervision of members, the implementation of regulations for Vietnamese journalists, rules for participating in social networks; resolutely and promptly discipline member journalists who show signs of political ideology and moral degradation; strictly handle journalists who violate the law and professional ethics. Fully promote the role and responsibility of the Council for Handling Violations of the Code of Professional Ethics for Vietnamese Journalists, promptly handle and have strict judgments against all levels of the Association and members who violate professional ethics.

At the same time, continue to grasp the thoughts, aspirations and legitimate needs of members, promptly care for and protect the legitimate rights and interests of members; encourage and reward collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in journalism activities and Association work; continue to direct all levels of the Journalists Association to respond to and effectively implement the emulation movement "Building a cultural environment in press agencies"...

In particular, the Journalists' Associations at all levels also continue to urgently implement plans to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Journalists' Association... contributing to building a team of journalists nationwide that is increasingly steadfast in political will, professional expertise and professional ethics, and well implementing the requirement of "Building a professional, humane and modern press and media" in the spirit of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress. Leading, directing and implementing well the preparation work for the 12th Congress of the Vietnam Journalists' Association, term 2025 - 2030.

This is an important political - social - professional event, a forum for the press nationwide, therefore, the preparation and organization of the Congress must be carried out with high requirements on the content of documents, personnel work as well as the organization of the Congress... In addition, annual tasks continue to be carried out in a scientific and creative manner, aiming at practicality, usefulness, and associated with the rights and interests of members.

It can be said that what the Vietnam Journalists Association has done in the past year is to create a vibrant atmosphere from the Central to the localities... Obviously, the mark through each outstanding event not only creates a brilliant 2024 but with that accumulated elite energy, it will certainly create momentum for a strong rebound in 2025 - a year of many great tasks and responsibilities waiting. Believe that with the intelligence and solidarity of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Journalists Association, the spirit of solidarity and unanimity of the provincial and municipal Associations, the Inter-Associations, the Sub-Associations... will open a 2025 with many new successes!
