Like the women's volleyball world championship that ended not long ago, the 32 teams participating in the men's volleyball world championship were divided into 8 groups.
The teams and groups of the 2025 men's world championship include host Philippines, Iran, Egypt, Tunisia (Group A), Poland, Netherlands, Qatar, Romania (Group B), France, Argentina, Finland, South Korea (Group C), USA, Cuba, Portugal, Colombia (Group D).

Slovenia, Germany, Bulgaria, Chile (Group E), Italy, Ukraine, Belgium, Algeria (Group F), Japan, Canada, Türkiye, Libya (Group G), Brazil, Serbia, Czech Republic and China (Group H).
Teams compete in a round robin format in the group stage, scoring points and ranking. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the round of 16. From the round of 16 onwards, matches will be played in a single-elimination format.
Just like the women's tournament, in the men's world volleyball championship, the top championship candidates include Italy (world number 5, defending champion), Brazil (number 7), USA (number 3), Poland (world number 1, defending runner-up), France (number 2), Japan (number 6)...
The host Philippines is the only Southeast Asian representative at this year’s World Cup. However, they are one of the lowest-ranked teams (56th in the world) present at the tournament. The two teams ranked lower than the Philippines are Libya (59th) and Algeria (65th).
After today's opening day, the men's volleyball world championship will last until September 28.
