The number of students increased sharply.
On September 26, the US Education Office of the US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City organized the US Education Fair Fall 2025, attracting many students to attend to learn about study opportunities in the US.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Melissa A. Brown, US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, said that last year alone, there were more than 36,000 Vietnamese students studying in the US. This number contributes significantly to the more than 1 million international students at US colleges and universities.
According to her, American universities highly appreciate these contributions and always welcome the participation of Vietnamese students in the rich academic community.
Previously, according to the Open Doors 2024 report, in the 2023-2024 school year, there were 22,066 Vietnamese students studying at US educational institutions. Thus, the number of Vietnamese students in the US has increased sharply, surpassing the 30,000 mark and approaching the 40,000 mark.
The United States has more than 4,500 universities and colleges, offering a wide range of academic programs. The 2025 Fall Education Fair alone has the participation of 60 American universities.
According to the US Office of Education, students attending the exhibition are provided with official, free and updated information about the US education system, admissions process as well as student visa application procedures.
The office also recommends that parents and students should not use unreliable consulting services, especially those that make unrealistic commitments about visa procedures.

Stabilize admission policy
Present at the exhibition, Mr. Ding Huang - Director of Admissions for Asia at St. John's University - said that the school's international student admission policy has been generally stable in recent times, with no sudden changes.
The school still maintains three main admission routes for international students including direct admission, the ELITE program that supports English enhancement in parallel with specialized courses, and conditional admission.
According to him, international students at St. John's often choose to study business, finance, insurance - risk management, along with law and communications. In addition, the school's multicultural environment also encourages many students to seek out the fields of international management and social sciences .
Ms. Chitra Saini, Director of Admissions for Southeast Asia at Southern Utah University (SUU), said that the admissions policy for international students at the school has been generally stable in recent times, with no sudden changes in academic or language requirements.
The school maintains a flexible admission model, allowing direct admission, while facilitating enhanced English programs and supporting credit transfer procedures from international schools.
She also noted that the overall landscape in the US has seen some changes in visa management, which have affected a small group of international students.
However, according to her, most schools have closely monitored and proactively supported, emphasizing that SUU is committed to ensuring the legitimate learning rights of foreign students.
Strong commitment to the Fulbright program
Within the framework of bilateral cooperation, 2025 also marks many outstanding activities between the two countries.
The US Embassy and Consulate General welcomed a delegation of 40 academic leaders from 22 US universities to Vietnam to work with domestic educational institutions, discuss internationalization projects and cooperation in the STEM field.
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of bilateral relations, many universities from Vietnam and the US have signed and implemented new cooperation projects, including student exchange programs.
The United States also continues its strong commitment to the Fulbright scholarship program, which supports educational exchange, research, and teaching.
