Coma, rabies due to cat bite

On October 6, the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases announced that it had just admitted a male patient (born in 1988, in Thai Nguyen ) in a state of agitation, restlessness, agitation, and fear of water.

Previously, the male patient (a construction worker) was transferred from Thai Nguyen C Hospital with a diagnosis of rabies.

Medical history: About 1 month before admission, the patient was bitten by a cat on the hand and the cat died a week later. The patient did not get a rabies vaccination.

Doctors are treating a male patient with rabies after being bitten by a cat.

The patient was transferred to the Emergency Department, Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases in a state of agitation, restlessness, agitation, fear of water, fear of wind, increased secretions, frequent spitting, and inability to eat or drink.

Doctors diagnosed the patient with an aggressive form of rabies. Currently, the patient is still in a coma and on a ventilator.

According to doctors, rabies is a dangerous infectious disease caused by a virus. The rabies virus can also be transmitted through open wounds, or by being scratched, bitten, or licked by dogs or cats. To date, there is no specific treatment for rabies. Once a rabies attack occurs, the mortality rate is 100%. Therefore, those who are bitten by dogs or cats, or come into contact with dogs or cats through open wounds on the skin, need to get a rabies vaccine as soon as possible.
