Veteran Tran Van Thu (born in 1953) in Phu Lang commune used to be a driver transporting gasoline, food and provisions to support the Southern battlefield on the legendary Truong Son road... After fighting in the war to protect the Fatherland, returning to his homeland, he was active and creative in developing the economy , enriching his family from the freight transport business. Up to now, he is the General Director of Dai Tan Company. His company provides jobs for more than 300 workers (of which more than 60% are veterans and children of veterans). In addition to organizing production and business effectively, he also does a good job in social security work, promoting comradeship activities.
In April 2025, the Provincial Veterans Association supported 60 million VND for veteran Nguyen Van Quang in Phu Lang commune to build a new house. |
Mr. Thu shared: “Participating in activities with comrades is a joy. Remembering the days of “sharing the fire” shoulder to shoulder on the battlefield, the comradeship and comradeship were so sacred and noble. I think I have the responsibility to help comrades and comrades ease the difficulties in life.” Fulfilling the promise and responsibility between comrades and comrades who “went through life and death”, in recent years, Mr. Thu has supported nearly 400 million VND to help veteran members repair and build 6 new “Veteran affection” houses including Mr. Bui Van Tu, Bui Van Quan (Phu Lang commune), Nguyen Van Phiet, Nguyen Ba Sap, Phung Dac Thang (Dao Vien commune), Nguyen Van Phan (Nhan Hoa commune).
Returning to visit and encourage veteran Phung Dac Thang (born in 1958) in Loc Thi village, Dao Vien commune, Mr. Thu felt excited and happy when Mr. Thang's family life changed and escaped poverty. Mr. Thang used to participate in protecting the northern border in Lang Son province. Sharing the situation of Mr. Thang's family living in a dilapidated, leaky house, in 2021, Mr. Thu supported 60 million VND to build a level 4 house with an area of 80 m2. Mr. Thang was moved: "It has been 4 years of living in a spacious house, I am grateful for the precious feelings of my comrades and teammates. I hope that there will be many difficult circumstances that the Association, comrades and teammates will care for, help, share and encourage in a timely manner."
Over the past 5 years, the provincial Veterans Association at all levels has promoted the spirit of solidarity, combined with propaganda and mobilization of cadres, members and benefactors, to raise more than 20 billion VND and nearly 6,000 working days to support more than 600 members to repair and build new houses, including more than 100 veteran members who are war invalids, sick soldiers, and those infected with toxic chemicals. |
Colonel Nguyen Duc Thuan, Chairman of the Provincial Veterans Association, affirmed: “Supporting the construction of veteran houses is a noble gesture of the provincial association at all levels, demonstrating the tradition and morality of “When drinking water, remember its source” of the nation and showing gratitude to war invalids, sick soldiers, and people with meritorious services to the revolution, while also arousing the pride and sense of responsibility of the next generation towards the previous generation. Therefore, the Association identifies taking care of the material and spiritual life of poor veteran members and those with difficult housing circumstances as a central and continuous task.
Every year, the Association directs grassroots associations to review poor veteran households that need to remove temporary and dilapidated houses, in order to have a timely support plan. From there, the Association actively propagates and mobilizes cadres and members to participate in donating, supporting funds, and working days to repair and build new houses for veteran members in difficult circumstances. Over the past 5 years, veteran associations at all levels in the province have promoted the spirit of solidarity, combined with propaganda and mobilization of cadres, members and benefactors to raise more than 20 billion VND and nearly 6,000 working days to support more than 600 members to repair and build new houses, including about more than 100 veteran members who are war invalids, sick soldiers, and those infected with toxic chemicals.
Excited and moved are the feelings of many veteran members when they live in new houses built with the support of their comrades and teammates. The understanding and sharing of the Association organizations, comrades and teammates are like spiritual medicine for them to feel secure and make efforts every day. Veteran, wounded soldier 2/4 Nguyen Van Hoi (born in 1950) in Dam residential group, Phuong Son ward has a particularly difficult situation. Mr. Hoi participated in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, liberating the South and unifying the country. Returning to normal life, he built a family and had 5 children. He himself suffered a stroke for more than 10 years, and all his daily activities are taken care of by his wife and children.
Difficult circumstances, old age and poor health, living in an old, dilapidated house are things that his family is always concerned about. Understanding the information, circumstances and wishes of the family, in February 2025, the Provincial Veterans Association supported Mr. Hoi with 80 million VND to build a new house of about 50 square meters with a total cost of 220 million VND. After 2 months, the house was completed. Mr. Nguyen Van Hoi, Mr. Hoi's son, said: "The attention of the local Party Committee, government and Veterans Association at all levels for my father is truly noble. That is a source of encouragement for my family to be more confident and strive to improve in life."
Each “Veteran’s Love” house built, each veteran member rising up from poverty is the goal, aspiration, and belief of all levels of the veteran association in the province. The spirit of “mutual love”, steadfast and deep comradeship is a noble gesture, a shining symbol of the qualities and traditions of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers”.
