Speaking to reporters, Mr. Jalali stated: "We are very interested in cooperating with Russia. We are ready to transport Russian gas through Iranian territory."

Mr. Kazem Jalali also pointed out that Russia is at the top of the list of foreign investment in this Middle Eastern country in 2023.

Russia and Iran respectively occupy the first and second positions among the countries with the largest gas reserves in the world , with Russia having about 37,000 billion m3 and Iran with about 32,000 billion m3.

Previously, in March 2024, Iran's Energy Commission member Seyed Musi Mousavi said in an interview with Shana news agency that energy cooperation between Iran and Russia in the energy sector is a response to Western sanctions.

"Russia and Iran are strategic partners. Cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector can bring mutual benefits. This is a great opportunity to strongly respond to any sanctions, taking into account that Iran is surrounded on all sides by countries that need gas and other petroleum products," Mousavi noted.

Regarding the draft version of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Iran and Russia, Ambassador Kazem Jalali said that the legal departments of the two countries ' Foreign Ministries are currently studying the draft to submit to the government for consideration and it will be signed soon.

He stressed that the Iran-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement will be signed immediately after the two countries' presidents approve it.

Earlier on July 23, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko also confirmed that the two sides will sign this Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement in the near future.

According to experts, the above agreement will promote economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, facilitate the development of joint infrastructure projects and cooperation in the energy sector, and promote the export of Iranian labor to Russia.

The comprehensive strategic partnership agreement is aimed at removing all obstacles to expanding trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, said senior researcher Vladimir Sazhin at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to the official Iran News Agency (IRNA) , it is likely that the Russia-Iran Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement may be signed at the BRICS Summit in the Kazan region next October.
