Career Connection in Australia

To meet the needs of Vietnamese students in Australia in finding career opportunities in future occupations and jobs, the Association of Vietnamese Students in Queensland (AVSQ) organized a career development event (idX).

The highlight of the idX event is that the scale of the organization is expanded to international students from all over Queensland, not just for Vietnamese students. According to the idX organizers, the event is not only limited to competitions but also a journey of practical experience, helping students improve their professional skills, broaden their professional perspective and connect directly with leading businesses.

idX spans two months and includes a real-life team competition, exhibition and career fair. The program is designed for second- and third-year students and recent graduates looking for internships or jobs in three areas: business, cutting-edge technology and creative industries.

The first is the idX Competition, which was launched in May 2025. The idX Competition has the participation of 20 contestants divided into 5 groups by industry and together solve practical problems designed by AVSQ specifically for each field. Participants will have 2 months to prepare their products before presenting to the judges and employers. In addition to the process of self-developing the project, the groups also receive professional support from the direct guidance program of experts in the 3 above-mentioned career fields and 2 skill training workshops. This is an opportunity for members of the competing groups to meet and get acquainted through kick-off activities, participate in thematic discussions and dialogue with guest speakers with many years of experience in the industry. From there, encourage participants to think critically, create solutions, build test products and present to the jury.

The event concluded with an exhibition and career fair at the University of Queensland in late July. During the exhibition, the best teams presented their products to attendees and a panel of judges made up of experienced professionals from various fields. The winning teams received cash prizes and the opportunity to interview directly with technology company Go1.

Along with the competition, the career fair took place with the participation of businesses and organizations including: Go1, CPA Australia, Vision Cosmos, AUG, Job Ready Master and Aussizz Group Queensland. Students were free to visit the booths, talk directly with employers, learn about internship and recruitment opportunities and receive advice on studying and settling in Australia.

Sharing about the event, Alyssa Heng, a design student from Malaysia, commented that idX was designed to be close to the current recruitment reality. Alyssa Heng said: “I didn’t expect the event to be so diverse. The company booths not only had traditional industries but also had study abroad and immigration consulting - exactly what I was looking for. I was also very impressed with the presentations of the competing groups, because they helped me understand how an idea was systematically developed. I gained a lot of useful information and some new connections.”

The successful organization of the idX career playground once again proves AVSQ's creativity and efforts to connect the community in Australia. Since its establishment in 2021, AVSQ has made remarkable developments and achieved proud achievements in career orientation, life support and connecting the Vietnamese student community in Brisbane city in particular and Queensland state in general. AVSQ's events always attract the participation of many international students and Vietnamese people living, working and studying in Queensland state, helping to promote the image of Vietnam as well as the association's activities on many media platforms.
