According to data released by the General Statistics Office, in August 2025 alone, Vietnam welcomed more than 1.68 million international visitors, an increase of 8% compared to July. This is the highest level in August in recent years.
In the first 8 months, the total number of international visitors to Vietnam reached nearly 14 million, an increase of 21.7% over the same period in 2024.
In terms of market, China is still the largest source of international visitors to Vietnam with more than 410,000 arrivals in August, accounting for 25% of total visitors.
South Korea ranked second with more than 380,000 arrivals, followed by Taiwan (China), Japan, the US and regional markets.
The top 10 largest markets for Vietnamese tourism also include Cambodia (445,000 arrivals), India (443,000 arrivals), Russia (377,000 arrivals), Australia (358,000 arrivals), and Malaysia (344,000 arrivals).
Notably, the Russian market in the first 8 months of 2025 increased by 164.9% over the same period. To date, this market has recovered 58% compared to the whole year of 2019 (about 650,000 visitors).
Other markets also grew strongly, such as the Philippines (+93.4%), India (+42.2%), China (+44.3%), and Cambodia (+50.7%). The European region maintained a steady growth momentum, notably the UK (+21.8%), France (+22.6%), and Germany (+17.9%).
The impressive growth in international tourist arrivals was thanks to favorable visa policies, enhanced tourism promotion programs, and activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day.
According to the assessment of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, although it is still the low season for international tourism, the positive growth results in July and August have shown positive signals for the inbound tourism market.
Despite consecutive records in international arrivals, the target of 25 million arrivals in 2025 is still considered challenging. To complete the annual target, Vietnam needs to welcome about 10 million more arrivals in the last 4 months of the year, equivalent to 2.5 million international visitors per month.
The government has also recently expanded visa exemptions for 12 more European countries, which is expected to create a new boost in attracting international visitors to Vietnam in the last months of the year.
