Vietnamese tourists going to Thailand are twice as many as Thai tourists going to Vietnam.

Tourism operators on the southern Thai resort island of Phuket hope to welcome more Vietnamese tourists following a recent promotional campaign in the country's two biggest cities.

The number of Vietnamese tourists to Thailand is increasing.

According to data from the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports , about 290,000 Vietnamese tourists visited Thailand from January to April this year, down 5.4 percent year-on-year.

However, this number is still much higher than the number of Thai visitors to Vietnam in the past 4 months. Specifically, in the first 4 months of 2024, there were 164,000 Thai visitors to Vietnam, down 18% compared to the same period in 2023.

Thailand recorded about 1 million Vietnamese visitors last year, but only 8% chose Phuket as one of their destinations. He added that operators hope to see at least 12% of total visitors from Vietnam come to Phuket, thanks to direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City.

The figure of 1 million visitors is more than double the number of Thai visitors to Vietnam. According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, last year, Vietnam attracted about 489,000 Thai visitors.

Vietnamese travel agencies explain that there are many reasons why the number of Vietnamese tourists to Thailand is increasing, such as diverse flight routes, cheap airfares, many entertainment venues that are always being renewed, subsidized tour programs so the total price is low..., especially promotional programs are organized regularly to attract customers right in the Vietnamese market.

In the first four months of 2024, Thailand welcomed a total of 12 million international tourists. The five countries with the largest number of tourists include China, Malaysia, Russia, South Korea and India.
