The first school year implementing Resolution 71
The school drums sound, signaling the start of a new school year. But the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year is not only an annual event, but also has a special meaning, marking a new beginning in the context of many strategic changes in the country.
This is the first school year taking place in a new context when the whole country has completed the arrangement of administrative units and implemented the two-level local government model. It is also the first school year implementing Resolution 71-NQ/TW dated August 22, 2025 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development.
Looking back over the past time, Vietnamese education has achieved proud achievements. However, to meet the country's development requirements in the digital age, education needs strong changes. Resolution 71-NQ/TW is the compass for that change. It is not simply a policy document, but a call, an aspiration to bring Vietnamese education and training to international standards.
The 2025-2026 school year will take place on the basis of a streamlined and more efficient administrative system. This will facilitate the implementation of educational policies, from resource allocation to infrastructure construction. Each locality, after the merger, can focus resources on investing in education, creating more spacious, modern and quality schools.
However, in addition to the advantages, the road ahead is also full of challenges. The two-tier government model requires smooth coordination between management levels, from central to local, so that policies are implemented synchronously and effectively. Teachers and students also need to adapt to changes in curriculum and teaching methods to meet new requirements.
To be successful, the implementation of Resolution 71 requires the cooperation of the whole society. Schools need to become creative environments, constantly innovating teaching methods. Teachers need to be given the conditions to improve their professional qualifications, students need to be encouraged to develop their personal capacity and practice critical thinking.
In a letter sent to the education sector on the occasion of the opening of the new school year 2025 - 2026, President Luong Cuong expressed his hope that the education sector would focus on implementing the school year's theme: "Discipline - Creativity - Breakthrough - Development; continue to aim towards the goal of forming and comprehensively developing people in terms of knowledge, ethics, skills, courage and aspirations, meeting the requirements of rapid and sustainable development of the country in the new era of development of the Vietnamese people.
President Luong Cuong emphasized: “On the threshold of the new school year, I believe that students will continue to nurture their dreams, constantly study and practice, become patriotic, responsible, creative, compassionate citizens, with great aspirations to build an increasingly prosperous and happy country. I hope that teachers, administrators, and workers in the education sector will always maintain the flame of passion and love for the profession, constantly innovate, create, and build a happy learning environment for students. I hope that parents, with love and responsibility, will continue to accompany the school and society to take care of future generations..."

New beginning, new goals, new opportunities
People often say that the new school year is a season of new beginnings, goals and opportunities. Every student is full of energy, carrying brand new books, pens, wearing new clothes, and most importantly, carrying dreams. From elementary school students to university students, it seems that everyone sets goals for themselves: high scores, awards... But is the new school year really just about studying? Or is there something more important waiting for us to discover?
In fact, the new school year is a journey for us to discover and understand ourselves. People often focus on the numbers on the report card, but there is one core thing, which is to understand ourselves. Understanding ourselves is not easy, but it requires taking the time to listen to our inner voice, find out what we are truly passionate about, our strengths and weaknesses. If we only study without knowing who we are, we may get lost on the path we are on.
Understanding yourself also includes accepting mistakes and failures. There will be times when you get a low score on a test, don't get the desired result, fail an exam... Instead of complaining and blaming, we should see those failures as opportunities to grow. Each fall is a valuable lesson that helps each person stand up and become stronger. Understanding yourself means accepting your shortcomings and flaws so that you can find ways to improve and become a better version.
Grades are a tool, not the ultimate goal. We are often obsessed with getting the highest score, surpassing our friends, pleasing our parents, getting into a top school. But does a 10 really reflect our full potential?
In fact, scores cannot measure creativity, critical thinking ability, or the soft skills we learn in life. It is just a temporary measure, a number on paper. Do not let these numbers dominate your own life. Instead of focusing only on scores, focus on the learning process, discovering knowledge. Ask yourself, why are we learning this? What does this knowledge mean to us? In this way, each young person will be motivated to learn, not because of scores, but because of curiosity and thirst for knowledge.
Finally, perhaps the most important thing is to understand why we study. We study not to get a degree, not to have a stable job, but to equip ourselves with the necessary tools to live a meaningful life. Studying is not just about reading books, solving math problems, writing well, but also about learning how to communicate, how to work in groups, how to face difficulties, how to deal with dangers...
Learning helps us broaden our horizons, understand the world around us, become a kinder person, and be useful to society. When we understand, we will have empathy, compassion and the ability to contribute to society. Learning is not just to make money, but to create value, to make our own lives and those around us better.
So, this new school year, let's change our perspective, don't just focus on studying for exams, getting high scores, but turn each school day into a journey of knowledge discovery and self-discovery. Learn about yourself, look at your scores correctly, consider them as a tool, not a goal.
A new school year awaits, not only with knowledge from books, but also lessons about life, about people and about yourself. Take advantage of every moment, every opportunity to grow, to become a better version of yourself.
Moreover, this year's opening ceremony is not only an opportunity for students to put on their new uniforms and enter the new school year, but also a reminder for the entire education sector of a noble mission: Training future citizens who will contribute to building a developed and prosperous Vietnam. With the spirit of innovation and high determination, we can completely believe in a successful school year, laying a solid foundation for the sustainable development of our country's education.
