Opening of Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024

(CLO) On the evening of November 9, the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 officially opened at August Revolution Square (Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi). The event was directed by the City People's Committee, Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Architecture Magazine in coordination with organizing units.

In her opening speech, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha said that Hanoi has just organized activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), the 25th anniversary of the City being recognized by UNESCO as a "City for Peace ", and 5 years as a "Creative City". The city has organized commemorative activities to review the heroic historical traditions of the Vietnamese people and of the army and people of Hanoi, to promote the will and determination to promote all resources, to build a "Cultured - Civilized - Modern" Capital; a globally connected city.

After nearly 5 years of becoming a member of the “Unesco Creative Cities Network”, Hanoi has many activities to materialize its commitments to building a “Creative City”, gradually affirming its position as one of the dynamic and creative cities and capitals of Asia. The city promotes creative design activities, connecting cooperation opportunities between cities in the network.

Ms. Vu Thu Ha, Vice Chairwoman of Hanoi People's Committee spoke at the opening ceremony.

“In 2024, the city has established an Advisory Council of experts, built creative activity spaces, developed criteria and creative activity spaces; prepared conditions for launching the Hanoi Creative Activities Coordination Center to connect units, organizations, individuals, experts, artists, and community groups operating in the field of creative design; attracted and connected local and international creative resources” - Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee said.

Assessing Hanoi's efforts in building the "Creative City" brand, Chief Representative of the Unesco Office in Vietnam Jonathan Wallace Baker said that over the years, Hanoi has played an important role in cooperation between Vietnam and Unesco.

Five years ago, Hanoi joined the Unesco Creative Cities Network as a testament to its capacity and creativity.

"Hosting the Creative Design Festival is one of many diverse creative activities in Hanoi, a typical example of the city's progress in realizing Hanoi as a creative city of Vietnam and a creative hub of the region," added Mr. Jonathan Wallace Baker.

Continuing the success of previous years, the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 with the theme "Creative Crossroads" took place from November 9 to 17, attracting more than 500 units, creators, architects, artisans, especially many young artists in the design fields.

The festival is formed along 7 typical historical heritage works of Hanoi with more than 100 creative activities in 12 cultural industry fields, typically architecture, design, fine arts, performance, cinema, advertising, handicrafts, publishing...

In addition, the festival has 3 symbolic works (Pavilion) “Innocent Corridor” at Hanoi Children’s Palace, “Stream” at Dien Hong Flower Garden and Bac Bo Palace, “Dragon and Snake in the Clouds” at the National History Museum. Through these, the creators want to continue writing the creative story connecting with the past, in order to create a unity between tradition and modernity.

Within the framework of the festival, there are also more than 20 seminars and talks on the fields of: Design, art, cinema, photography, fashion , technology, publishing and other fields. In particular, at this festival, travel agencies participate in building cultural tours combined with festival activities to bring visitors closer to the unique cultural and architectural heritage of Hanoi.

At the same time, 30 districts, towns and cities of the city also have activities responding to the festival, connecting creativity and promoting historical and cultural traditions, towards the development of the cultural industry and creative industry of the capital Hanoi.
