Deep in the treasure trove of traditional Vietnamese music , Ca Tru has long been considered a scholarly art form, a crystallization of music, poetry and unique performing techniques. With a history of more than a thousand years, this art form once flourished in the royal court, mandarin mansions and village singing clubs, and was a symbol of the ancient intellectual class.
In 2009, UNESCO recognized Ca Tru as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in need of urgent protection, opening a new chapter for the restoration and dissemination of the value of this unique art form.
Nowadays, in the context of digital transformation spreading in all fields, the application of technology to preserve and popularize traditional cultural heritage is no longer a temporary trend but has become a long-term strategy. The project to recreate Ca Tru space using VR360 virtual reality technology and 3D models , coordinated by YooLife, is one of the pioneering efforts in that direction - bringing a realistic, vivid, and in-depth experience to modern viewers.
The space chosen for digitization is Bich Cau Dao Quan - a place with an ancient cultural mark, where traditional Ca Tru performances often take place. With VR360 virtual reality technology combined with 3D technology, the entire ancient architecture, performance stage, musical instruments, costumes and atmosphere of the performance are meticulously and in detail recreated. Viewers do not simply stand outside and observe, but "step into" the ancient performance space - where there are female singers , musicians and drum beaters , together taking the audience through layers of melodious and profound sounds.
The special point of this experience lies in the 3D modelling of traditional instruments such as the Dan Day, the Bamboo clappers, the Chau drums , as well as the sitting postures, movements, and costumes of the performing artists. Through modern graphic technology, viewers can closely observe every detail of the musical instrument structure, and listen to the vivid explanation of the function and role of each component in the Ca Tru orchestra. The space is not only visible in terms of images but also vivid in sound - the long singing voice from the singer's throat, the meticulous clappers, the high and low sounds of the instruments - all create an emotional field that is both solemn and attractive.
Along with that, YooLife also integrates historical documents, rare images and stories from elderly artisans , helping viewers understand more deeply about the origin, techniques, performance and role of Ca Tru in Vietnamese cultural life through the ages.
The project of recreating Ca Tru using VR360 and 3D technology also has a special meaning in reaching the young generation – a group that has little access to this art form in daily life. On the online platform, with just a smart device and internet connection, young people can “travel” into the space of Ca Tru singing, listen, observe and learn – a gentle yet profound way of inspiration.
Besides the technical factor, what is valuable about the project is the spirit of preserving the traditional values of Ca Tru art. Without exaggeration or excessive modernization, YooLife chose to recreate the original - retaining the singing style, space, musical instruments and ancient rituals - thereby ensuring that the heritage still retains its soul when being transformed into a digital environment. Ca Tru - once an art performed in communal houses, in lords' palaces or in literary associations - can now be present in cyberspace, reaching the public anywhere, anytime. That is an effective step to spread cultural values, reviving the quintessence that seemed to have faded.
