On October 21, the People's Committee of Tay Ninh province held a meeting to discuss the flood water level affecting agricultural production in communes in the Dong Thap Muoi region.

According to a report from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, flood water levels at measuring stations in the area are rising rapidly, 0.04 - 0.49 m higher than the same period in 2024.

Heavy rain combined with high tides and upstream floods caused hundreds of hectares of rice, fruit trees, and vegetables in communes in the Dong Thap Muoi region to be flooded. As of October 20, the entire region recorded more than 270 hectares of damage, of which 251.6 hectares of rice, 22 hectares of fruit trees, and 1.5 hectares of vegetables were completely damaged. The communes heavily affected include: Vinh Thanh, Khanh Hung, Vinh Chau, Tuyen Binh, and Moc Hoa.

Faced with the above situation, the People's Committees of localities have mobilized local forces and coordinated with local people to reinforce the weak dykes. Many areas have been raised 20-40 cm to prevent landslides and installed drainage pumps. Some places such as Hung Dien, Nhon Hoa Lap, Tuyen Thanh and Vinh Hung communes have completed reinforcing dozens of kilometers of dykes to protect more than 5,000 hectares of Autumn-Winter and Winter-Spring rice crops.

According to forecasts, due to local rain and upstream floodwaters, the 2025 flood peak is forecast to appear on October 23 and 24, in which many stations such as Hung Dien B, Tan Hung, and Tuyen Nhon have water levels higher than the average of many years.

Therefore, Vice Chairman of Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Lam requested that departments, branches and localities continue to closely monitor the developments of floods and rains, proactively deploy response plans according to the "four on-site" motto. The Department of Agriculture and Environment coordinates with localities to review weak dykes, promptly handle, raise and reinforce them to protect production and people's safety. At the same time, strengthen propaganda and guide people in flooded areas to proactively prevent and minimize damage caused by floods.

The People's Committee of Tay Ninh province also assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to propose a plan to urgently support funding to reinforce 23 dykes with a total length of more than 105 km, in order to effectively respond to the complicated flood situation in the coming days.
