Following the brilliant success of the first season, the second Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2024 is worth looking forward to.

The first season of the awards ceremony

The semi-final match between the University of Water Resources (12) and Ton Duc Thang University at the first Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2023 took place very excitingly.

The rules are in accordance with AFC regulations.

On October 19, 2023, VFF General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi, co-Head of the Organizing Committee, signed and issued the regulations for the 2nd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2024. What is noteworthy in this year's regulations? The regulations on competition registration are stated very carefully and in detail. The Organizing Committee (OC) allows teams to register up to 7 officials (with the positions of team leader, head coach, assistant coach, technical staff, media staff, doctor, caregiver). Of which, there are 3 positions that must be registered including team leader, head coach and doctor or caregiver.

INDEPENDENCE

These are requirements approaching the standards of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for clubs or national teams in international competitions. For student football competitions, setting high standards requires teams to invest more in human resources and organization, but it is necessary for the tournament to have increasingly higher professional quality. The tournament is only professional when the teams are truly professional and methodical, in many aspects such as image building, foreign relations, interaction with fans, compliance with the rules of the game and logistics issues.

Why are there mandatory registration titles?

Mr. Duong Nghiep Khoi explained: "This year's tournament regulations are strictly reinforced. The team's leadership must have 7 officials, including a team leader, coach, and doctor or caregiver. The regulations for the first Youth Student Football Tournament - 2023 only require the number of officials but do not require the required positions to register. Tightening the terms related to competition registration helps teams ensure the purpose of participation, sportsmanship as well as professional factors. The team leader will take care of logistics, costumes, and training; the head coach and assistants take care of professional matters. In addition, when the team travels, there must also be a team to take care of accommodation and manage the team like a professional team. The more professional requirements are set, the more organized and stable the team's organization will be.

Each team can register an additional fitness coach, the Organizing Committee does not prohibit it, because it will contribute to improving the professionalism in training and competition. The regulation that teams have media officers (in clause 7.2, article 7, registration for competition under the tournament regulations) is a very new and necessary feature. With more media officers, the team will have more conditions to create a good visual effect, interact more strongly with fans, and spread the image of the team in particular and the tournament in general more deeply and widely to the public and audience.

Mr. Duong Nghiep Khoi also said: "The fact that each team is required to register a doctor or caregiver clearly shows that issues related to health care and physical fitness for players are promoted and given special attention, to ensure safety in competition and training. When an athlete is injured, if well cared for, he or she can recover quickly. If an unfortunate injury occurs, the doctor or caregiver will be responsible for initial first aid and depending on the severity of the injury, there will be appropriate next steps to take."

Strict regulations on subjects and qualifications for participating in the competition

The regulations of the 2nd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2024 provide very clear regulations on the eligibility of players to participate in the tournament that teams need to pay special attention to. Clause 5.1, Article 5 clearly states: Players are male students, studying in a long-term full-time program. Football students majoring in sports training at universities, colleges of physical education or players who have registered or are registering to compete in U.21, second-class, first-class and V-League 2021, 2022, 2023 tournaments are not allowed to participate (for the first tournament, the regulations do not clearly state that players who have registered or are registering to compete in second-class tournaments and U.21 tournaments are not allowed to participate).

Stricter 2024 tournament rules

Regarding the age of participating students, the regulations also clearly state: from 18 - 28 years old (born from January 1, 1996 - December 31, 2006), compared to last year, which only stipulated over 18 years old. In particular, this year's regulations add a provision: students studying at a school must only compete for the representative team of that school, students studying at a school with a main headquarters cannot compete for a branch school in another locality and/or vice versa. The regulations also add regulations on the subjects participating in the tournament: teams of academies, universities, and colleges nationwide. In case an academy or university has many member schools or affiliated schools, only one team can be registered to participate in the tournament, to ensure fairness.

"The Organizing Committee has clear regulations at the registration stage. Players who have participated in professional competitions will no longer compete with amateur players so that this competition is purely for students. However, players who previously practiced in the gifted team, but are currently students, can still compete. The more professional the organization, the better the quality of the tournament, the image of student football will also be raised, bringing the most beautiful and cleanest playground for the players. The Organizing Committee has experience in processing and reviewing registration documents, so it will strictly ensure the input stage for the tournament. In Japan and Korea, student tournaments are organized very systematically and systematically. The teams and players participating in the tournament have almost reached the professional level, thanks to which the student tournament has produced many talented players. Looking back at Vietnam, the student football playground may become a foothold for many non-professional players to step into the second-class, first-class or V-League in the near future," Mr. Duong Nghiep Khoi emphasized.

The qualifying round of the 2nd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2024 takes place from January 6 to March 9, 2024; the final round takes place from March 16 to 31, 2024 at Ton Duc Thang University Stadium (HCMC). The deadline for receiving the list and registration documents of the teams is November 15, 2023.

KEEP THE PRIZE VALUE HIGH

According to the regulations of the 2nd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2024, the prize structure remains unchanged compared to the first season. Specifically, the champion team will receive a trophy, a plaque, a gold medal and a prize of 300 million VND; the runner-up team will receive a plaque, a silver medal and a prize of 150 million VND; the third-place team will receive a plaque, a bronze medal and a prize of 80 million VND; the team winning the style prize will receive a plaque and 40 million VND.

The best player of the final round will receive 15 million VND; the best goalkeeper of the final round will receive 10 million VND; the player who scores the most goals of the final round will receive 10 million VND (in case 2 or more players score the same number of goals, the prize will be divided equally among those players); the referee team that excellently completes the final round task will receive 10 million VND; the best player of each match in the group stage of the final round, quarter-finals will receive 1 million VND/match, semi-finals 2 million VND/match and final 3 million VND.
