On October 11, 8 Vietnamese players competed in the Last 64 round of the Hanoi Open Pool Championship 2024. However, 7 players were eliminated, the most regrettable of which was the loss of player Duong Quoc Hoang. He received an 8-10 defeat against player Dean Shields (England).
The only Vietnamese player to win in the Last 64 round was Nguyen Van Huynh. However, on the afternoon of October 11, he had to stop playing when he faced Edward Koyongian in the round of 32 strongest players.
Nguyen Van Huynh lost to Edward Koyongian with a score of 6-10.
Nguyen Van Huynh had a poor start and was trailing 3-1. However, the Vietnamese player played with more concentration and continuously chased the Indonesian player. The turning point came in game 8, when the score was 4-3 in favor of Koyongian. Van Huynh unexpectedly made a mistake with the 3rd ball, giving the game to his opponent.
Edward Koyongian won 3 games in a row to lead 7-3, creating a 4-game gap. Nguyen Van Huynh had almost no chance at this point, because the Indonesian player played too focused.
With the score at 9-4, Nguyen Van Huynh won 2 consecutive games but could not make a surprise. Edward Koyongian performed a classy cue ball hiding situation in the last game. Van Huynh failed to break the siege and was forced to miss, giving the opportunity to place the ball to his opponent. Koyongian handled it neatly, closing the match with a score of 10-6. Edward Koyongian's next opponent in the round of 16 is Jayson Shaw, ranked 62nd in the world .
In addition to Nguyen Van Huynh and Duong Quoc Hoang, 6 Vietnamese athletes had to say goodbye to Hanoi Open on November 10: Nguyen Dang Tuyen, Nguyen Cong Thanh, Nguyen Duc Thang, Luong Duc Thien, Bui Truong An and Lo Van Xuan.
Despite his best efforts, player Nguyen Cong Thanh tied with world No. 34 Jeffrey Ignacio 9-9. However, he could not surprise the Filipino player and suffered a regrettable 9-10 defeat.
The Last 16 round of the 2024 Open Pool Championship takes place on Saturday, October 12, at the My Dinh Indoor Athletics Stadium.
