No more burning votive paper in Con Dao

In December, 100% of the offering trays and baskets met green criteria. The air quality measurement results at Hang Duong Cemetery were always at a good level (AQI 39).

According to news from the Con Dao National Monument Conservation Center ( Ba Ria - Vung Tau province), from January 1, 2025, the "Green Basket" campaign - saying no to the burning of votive paper offerings will enter phase 4, deployed simultaneously 365 days a year at all monuments across the district.

Tourists have gradually gotten used to not burning votive paper and bringing green baskets of offerings to Con Dao.

"Green Gift Basket" is a program implemented to say no to the burning of votive offerings at historical sites across the district. The goal is to reduce hazardous waste that pollutes the environment, contributing to realizing the objectives of the project to research and apply circular economy to serve sustainable socio-economic development of Con Dao district, period 2022-2025, oriented to 2030.

Green gift baskets do not use votive paper, foam, linen bags, plastic bottles, or disposable plastic trays. The size of the gift basket is neat and solemn, with height, length, and width not exceeding 50cm.

The campaign will be implemented systematically from October 1, 2023 with 4 phases.

Phase 1, from October 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, focuses on propaganda and mobilizing people and tourists to respond to the policy of limiting offerings and burning votive papers when visiting sites and relics.

Phase 2 implements the green basket Saturday (from July 2024 to the end of September 2024). As a result of phase 2, the Con Dao National Monument Conservation Center recorded that the percentage of baskets meeting the green basket criteria was 98.38%.

Phase 3 is the green basket week, scheduled for the first week of each month in October, November and December 2024. During this week from December 2 to 8, 100% of the offering trays and baskets meet the green basket criteria. The AQI air quality measurement results at Hang Duong Cemetery are always at a good level (AQI 39).
