Coach must deal with consequences with taekwondo student's family

On January 12, 2025, the VTF Inspection Board received a complaint from Mr. NTH, the parent of martial arts student: NTNM, 13 years old.

Through the complaint, Mr. H reported that NTNM was abused by coach Nguyen Van Kin, who is also the manager of Seung Ri Club - address: No. 151/1 Ho Nguyen Trung Street, Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District, Da Nang, and the club's assistant with bamboo sticks and training equipment, causing injury and psychological trauma.

The VTF Inspection Committee requests the Da Nang Taekwondo Federation to urgently verify the above-mentioned abuse incident. Verify the specific and truthful report of the abuse. Verify the legal status and validity of the coach and assistant coach. Review the health and psychological condition of NTNM and the direction of coach Nguyen Van Kin to remedy the consequences for the child's family. Request that these steps be taken urgently before January 15, report to the President of VTF."

The VTF leader said: "The behavior of the coach and assistant will be reviewed by the authorities. Any violations of the law will be dealt with accordingly, especially violations of professional ethics. We are waiting for the VTF Inspection Board and the Da Nang Taekwondo Federation to report. The VTF will revoke the club code, not allow coaches to organize promotion exams and not send students to participate in promotion exams, meaning the club and coach will not be professionally recognized."

Coach Van Kin explained to Thanh Nien Newspaper: "I use a small bamboo stick 50 cm long in teaching. However, that bamboo stick is for me to correct the movements of the students. In addition, I use the bamboo stick to perform challenges, to increase the speed and strength of the students." On January 14, the taekwondo club of which this coach is the head was officially suspended.
