In September, Time Out magazine published a list of the 39 coolest neighborhoods in the world. Nguyen Thai Binh Ward in Ho Chi Minh City was named at number 11.
This ranking has been conducted annually for the past 8 years. The list includes residential areas and streets with strong local culture, rich art, rich cuisine , and vibrant nightlife.
The list is based on nominations from reporters and editors in many cities, ranked according to criteria such as culture, community, level of comfort for living, cuisine, street life and timeliness.
After the merger, the old Nguyen Thai Binh ward was split, one part merged into Saigon ward, the rest merged into Ben Thanh ward.
The British magazine described the Nguyen Thai Binh area as having the characteristics of urban neighborhoods in Vietnam with many small shops close together, motorbikes everywhere and restaurants with steaming pots of broth in front of the door. The unique feature of this neighborhood lies deep in the alleys. At night, behind the closed roller doors and French-style buildings are international restaurants and secret bars with lights on. If you explore further, visitors can also find antique shops selling many wartime memorabilia.
