On the afternoon of September 27 in Shanghai, chess player Lai Ly Huynh defeated Doan Thang 3-1 in the final match, helping Vietnam win the world chess championship for the first time. This is a historic milestone, ending China's domination that lasted for more than three decades.
The match started off with a difficult start as Doan Thang, only 20 years old, entered the game confidently and gained an advantage. However, a crucial mistake in the middle game cost him an important piece, opening up an opportunity for Ly Huynh to break the game.

With his bravery and sharp endgame ability, the Vietnamese player gradually controlled the game and forced his opponent to admit defeat.
This victory not only helps Ly Huynh get revenge for the bitter defeat in the 2023 final, but also brings great pride to the Vietnamese chess community. Former President of the Vietnam Chess Federation Nguyen Huu Luan - gave Ly Huynh a bonus of 1 billion VND for the 35-year-old player and 200 million VND for the coaching staff.
This year’s tournament gathered 51 players, taking place from September 22 to 27. Ly Huynh was undefeated through 9 games, affirming his number one position. From Vinh Long to the world championship, he made history, bringing Vietnamese chess to a new level.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Thang - Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Chess Federation excitedly said: " The match was extremely tense both mentally and professionally. After the opening, the opponent sacrificed Cannon in exchange for Elephant and received the attack.
With his experience in returning troops to regain the initiative and continuously attacking, he forced the opponent to lose the initiative. The Rook and Knight were held back and unable to move. He continued to deal fatal blows to the General, forcing the opponent to surrender.
After Lai Ly Huynh's victory, the company of former President of the Vietnam Chess Federation Nguyen Huu Luan gave a bonus of 1 billion VND to the champion player and 200 million VND to the coach.
