In the 8th round of the world chess tournament that took place on the evening of September 25, the representative from Vietnam - Ly Huynh drew with Li Dezhi, thereby finishing with 13 points (5 wins, 3 draws) and maintaining an undefeated record. Notably, the two Chinese players Doan Thang and Manh Phồn Duye also tied, making the three players have 13 points each.

Doan Thang took the lead with 85 points and won the first place to advance to the final. Lai Ly Huynh followed closely with 81 points, only 1 point more than Phon Due.

Thanks to the better secondary index, along with the fact that Ly Huynh won more games with the black pieces (4 compared to 2), he won the remaining ticket to the final.

Previously, Ly Huynh had shown impressive form when he won all 4 games in which he held the black pieces. Including the victory in round 7 against Chong Heung Ming.

The remaining representative of Vietnam, Nguyen Thanh Bao, no longer has a chance to enter the final after drawing with Li Mingjian in round 7. However, this draw has extremely important tactical significance for Lai Ly Huynh.

According to analysis, if Thanh Bao had won, the secondary index of the two Chinese players could have increased significantly and surpassed Ly Huynh. Thanh Bao's draw indirectly protected the secondary index advantage for his teammate Lai Ly Huynh.

Chess player Lai Ly Huynh will face Chinese player Doan Thang in the final match taking place at 12 noon on September 27 (Vietnam time).

Chess player Lai Ly Huynh was born in 1990 in Vinh Long . Lai Ly Huynh has won the national chess championship 6 times.

His most notable international achievement was at the 2023 World Xiangqi Championship in the US, where he made it all the way to the finals and only lost to Manh Than in a dramatic tie-break.
