In schools, providing a wide range of books helps students improve their learning quality. |
Coming to Van Tien bookstore on Le Quy Don street next to Thai Nguyen University of Education, I was overwhelmed by tens of thousands of books neatly arranged on shelves according to each field: Literature books, science books, economics textbooks, politics textbooks, Ho Chi Minh ideology textbooks, reference books, life skills books... New books and old books are arranged separately for readers to easily find.
Recalling the “golden age” of the used book wholesale market, Mr. Dao Anh Tien, owner of Van Tien bookstore, excitedly said: More than 10 years ago, my store was always crowded with people buying and renting books. The store had a certain number of used textbooks, reference books of various subjects, classic literature books, novels, so the customers were mostly students. The bookstore was located near schools, so after school hours or on holidays, students came to the store to buy and rent books. Now, with the development of technology, many people, especially young people, have switched to reading e-books.
According to Mr. Tien, although the number of customers, especially students, has decreased, the good news is that middle-aged and elderly people are still regular customers who come to find good books to read.
Many families are particularly interested in training their children to have the habit of reading. Therefore, in addition to buying reference books for cultural subjects, they often choose books that teach life skills, communication, short stories, Vietnamese fables, etc. to help their children develop their thinking and nourish their souls.
On holidays, many families take their children to bookstores to choose reference books, life skills education books... |
It was thought that the huge and diverse market for new books would gradually shrink the number of used book stores. But in reality, as the reading culture of young people has improved, used books have gained a more solid foothold.
While older people choose books about history and culture, young people look for books about literature, language, and science for reference and research.
Hoang Thao Van, a 4th year student of the Faculty of Business Administration, University of Economics and Business Administration (Thai Nguyen University), confided: I have liked old books since my first year of university. Whenever I have free time, I go to old bookstores to buy books for reference. Old books have many interesting things, not only do I find in them the memories of the old owner or the author of the book, but also the translation and writing style of the ancients are very close and simple. There are writing styles that are rarely seen today.
According to Ms. Duong Thu Minh in Phan Dinh Phung ward: Currently, book supermarkets and bookstores pay great attention to creating an experiential space for readers, so that they do not feel bored when they come. The bookstore space is decorated vividly and beautifully, which makes my child very excited. He can choose books himself, feel the materials, images, etc. Many bookstores also arrange reading spaces, which is an ideal place for families to cultivate a reading culture for their children.
Over time, along with the persistence of maintaining old bookstores, the strong development of modern bookstores and supermarkets has gradually become the pillar of reading culture. The system of modern bookstores and supermarkets has reflected the change of today's reading culture.
