At Ha Tinh General Hospital, every week, the image of volunteers and medical staff regularly preparing hundreds of free meals and thousands of free porridges to give to patients has become familiar. The meals, though simple, contain care, helping patients ease the difficulties during their treatment days.

Receiving meals during the days of treatment at the Internal Medicine Department, Provincial General Hospital, Mr. Nguyen Thanh An (Huong Son commune) shared: “Because I have a chronic disease, I have to go to the hospital regularly for treatment. Because my house is far away, during the treatment process here, I was supported and taken care of attentively by the doctors and nurses. When there was a free rice or porridge distribution session, the doctors and nurses in the department always registered for me a portion, helping me save on the hassle and expense of traveling.”
It is known that in the 5-year period from 2021-2025, the Social Work Department of Ha Tinh Provincial General Hospital has implemented many practical activities, associated with the needs of patient care and support. With the coordination of charitable organizations, the department has distributed over 150,000 free porridge portions and more than 58,000 free meal coupons (each worth 25,000 VND) to inpatients. On average, each year, the department receives and supports over 60,000 patients in difficult circumstances, organizes more than 300 consultations and psychological support for patients and their families during long-term treatment.

In addition, the department also mobilized and presented more than 1,000 gifts to sick children on holidays such as Mid-Autumn Festival, International Children's Day, Lunar New Year; mobilized and presented more than 30 strollers to disadvantaged patients in treatment departments. Over the past 5 years, the total funding that the Social Work Department has called for has exceeded 9 billion VND. At the same time, it coordinated and organized more than 150 volunteer activities, successfully connecting many serious cases with humanitarian programs in newspapers and television to call for support.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Trang - Head of Social Work Department, Provincial General Hospital shared: "Many patients come to the medical facility for treatment but their circumstances are extremely difficult, some are lonely, some have lost their ability to work, and are in need. Therefore, supporting and accompanying such situations will encourage, motivate and help them feel warmer. What is valuable is that, in the journey of sharing and supporting patients, the hospital has had the companionship of many philanthropists, with noble acts and gestures of support."

At Ha Tinh Rehabilitation Hospital, the Meal Fund for Patients in Difficult Circumstances has become a place to spread the spirit of sharing and caring for poor patients. Through efforts to call for support from the community, every day, Ha Tinh Rehabilitation Hospital has free meals for patients in difficult circumstances and single patients.
Doctor Nguyen Thi Dien - Director of Ha Tinh Rehabilitation Hospital said: "With the nature of rehabilitation, patients have to be treated for a long time, so mobilizing resources to support patients in difficult circumstances has a great meaning of encouragement. Even if it is just a meal, porridge or a small gift, it will help them to make more efforts and persevere in treatment."
Since the beginning of the year, the Social Work Team of Ha Tinh Rehabilitation Hospital has raised over 158 million VND to support patients and distributed over 7,000 free meals. In addition, the team has also received many gifts in kind from volunteers to help patients in difficult circumstances. It has maintained activities such as: singing in the hospital bed, singing to each other, free hair washing and cutting, and shaving for all patients and their relatives who are being treated as inpatients at the hospital.

It is known that currently, all medical examination and treatment facilities in the whole province have established funds to support poor patients and patients in difficult circumstances. Through calling for support from the community, medical facilities have accompanied and shared with patients with meals, porridge, free bus tickets, small gifts or partial support of hospital fees. These acts not only have material meaning but also serve as a source of spiritual encouragement, adding strength to patients to overcome their illness. At the same time, it is also a vivid demonstration of the spirit of "a good doctor is like a mother", caring for and accompanying patients with a compassionate heart.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Duc - Director of Ha Tinh Department of Health said: "It can be affirmed that, along with professional development, in recent times, medical facilities in the area have made efforts to accompany and share with patients through practical actions. These actions have been creating a beautiful image of Ha Tinh medical facilities in the hearts of the people, creating great satisfaction for patients. In order for the "pots of love porridge", "shared meals", "Funds to support poor patients" in many hospitals and medical centers to continue to spread and accompany patients more in the coming time, we hope to continue to receive the affection and support of the social community and philanthropists for charitable activities at medical facilities".
