However, Syria was only in the 4th seed group of the West Asia region that year, lower than Vietnam U20's starting point (3rd seed group). Syria's performance at the 2023 AFC U20 Championship was also not good. They earned 1 point after 3 matches, even losing 0-1 to Indonesia. They left the tournament with 1 draw and 2 losses, scoring 1 goal and conceding 4 goals. It can be said that the golden age of Syrian football ended 20 years ago.
