The Regional Radio Frequency Center II (Center II), under the Radio Frequency Department, has coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security and Ho Chi Minh City Police to crack down on a case of using fake mobile base transceiver stations (BTS) to spread fraudulent messages and appropriate people's property.

On the afternoon of August 21, during regular frequency monitoring, Center II detected an unusual broadcast signal in Ho Chi Minh City.

Recognizing this as a sign of a fake BTS station, Center II quickly deployed forces, cordoned off the area and urgently coordinated with functional forces to inspect and arrest the subject and evidence at the scene.

At the scene, the authorities seized two fake BTS devices that were operating, spreading fake messages from Vietcombank and Vietnam Post Corporation (Vietnam Post) to scam people. In addition, another unused device was also seized.

This is the fourth incident in the first three weeks of August in which Center II, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security, discovered and arrested subjects using fake BTS stations to spread fraudulent messages, including the participation of foreigners.

This incident once again sounds the alarm about new high-tech fraud tricks, combining BTS station impersonation techniques and tricks to appeal to consumer psychology in the digital age.

At the same time, this is also a testament to the effectiveness of inter-sectoral coordination between specialized forces in frequency, technical expertise and criminal justice in protecting information security and maintaining security and order.

Authorities recommend that people need to be vigilant, absolutely do not access strange links sent via text messages, and do not provide personal information, passwords, or OTP codes to anyone.

"When detecting messages with signs of fraud, people need to immediately report to the police or mobile network operators for timely support and prevention," the representative of the authorities emphasized.
