Malaysia considers regional partners' views ahead of APEC Forum

Malaysia will consider the views of regional partners before deciding to participate in the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in the US this coming November.

Speaking at the Malaysian House of Representatives session on the afternoon of October 2, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that Kuala Lumpur had contacted to grasp the views of member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China, from which to make a decision.

APEC is a forum of 21 economies accounting for about 62% of the world's GDP, with the goal of promoting economic cooperation and free trade in the Asia- Pacific region.

Each year, the countries take turns hosting summits, ministerial meetings, and working group meetings. This year, the United States will host the 30th APEC Summit from November 15-17 in San Francisco.

According to the plan, Chinese President Xi Jinping may attend the APEC Summit at the invitation of US President Joe Biden. Therefore, the White House boss is expected to hold talks with the Chinese leader on the sidelines of the Summit.
