Quang Binh While driving an excavator to dredge the banks of Nhat Le River, Mr. Le Huu Duc suddenly dug up a 230 kg MK82 bomb with the fuse still intact.
The bomb was discovered by Mr. Duc on the afternoon of April 4 while dredging the banks of Nhat Le River, passing through Dong Hoi City to build an embankment. At first, Mr. Duc thought it was scrap metal or a piece of ship, but when he dug it up, it turned out to be a bomb.
Having driven an excavator for 20 years and having dug up bombs left over from the war, Mr. Duc was still surprised by the large bomb, more than 2 meters long and nearly 30 cm in diameter.

The bomb is located close to the Nhat Le river embankment, in the center of Dong Hoi city, where the population density and traffic are high. Ships also anchor daily close to this embankment.
The project investor, the Quang Binh Provincial Department of Tourism, later requested a temporary halt to construction, the removal of machinery, equipment, and personnel from the area where the bomb was discovered, and reported to the Provincial Military Command.
Today, the MAG bomb disposal organization and the Quang Binh Provincial Military Command brought the bomb to the warehouse, waiting for centralized destruction. The bomb, coded MK82, still had its fuse intact, with a lethal radius of nearly one kilometer.
During the war, Quang Binh was severely bombed by the US Air Force. The Nhat Le River section passing through Dong Hoi City was one of the places that suffered the most bombing.
