Bright mind - Steady career

In folk beliefs, every profession has its founder – the one who enlightens and transmits the quintessence to future generations. With the performing arts , the founder is the spiritual support, giving the artist strength to overcome difficulties and challenges. Many artists believe that the luck in the profession, the enthusiastic applause of the audience or the memorable roles are partly protected by the founder. Therefore, the death anniversary of the stage founder does not stop at the ritual of offering incense and gifts, but also a promise to practice and improve the profession and ethics to be worthy of the founder and the audience.

Artists of Huong Tram Opera Troupe diligently practice and prepare a special performance to offer to the ancestors of the profession.

Meritorious Artist Minh Hoang, Chairman of the Ca Mau Provincial Theater Association, shared: “To worship the ancestors, artists must always respect the profession, maintain their personality and proper conduct. Artists are the "flowers" of the stage, they must be beautiful in both form and content. If they are not decent, no one will pay to buy tickets to see them perform. They must not look down on the audience, nor can they rely on being a leading actor or famous to oppress their colleagues. Without a bright mind, they cannot sustain their career.”

Meritorious Artist My Hanh, former President of the Bac Lieu Provincial Theater Association, also expressed: “The Theater Founder’s Anniversary is our professional New Year’s Day. Artists seriously prepare for both the ceremony and the festival, actively practicing to present the Founder with unique and meaningful performances. The purpose is to create emotions, impressions, and honor the core values of Vietnamese theater arts.”

The atmosphere of the Ancestor Worship Anniversary in art troupes is always filled with affection. Whether they are famous artists or young actors just starting out in the profession, everyone shares the same respect, together recalling memories, honoring the value of the profession and encouraging each other to preserve and promote precious traditions.

Artists are constantly practicing to prepare for the Theatre Ancestor's Death Anniversary.

This year, for the Huong Tram Cai Luong Troupe, the Ancestor's Death Anniversary is even more meaningful as it coincides with the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Ca Mau Province Liberation Art Troupe. The ceremony will be held grandly on the 11th and 12th of the 8th lunar month (October 2nd and 3rd), with the participation of more than 300 delegates.

Meritorious Artist Lich Su, Head of the Huong Tram Cai Luong Troupe, said: “In addition to the incense offering ceremony, the troupe also organized an exhibition of artifacts, documentary images, and a video presentation about the 65-year journey of formation and development of the Liberation Art Troupe. This is also an occasion to commemorate the 7 artists - martyrs who sacrificed their lives while performing for the people and soldiers. With those contributions, the troupe was awarded the title of Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces. As the successor, I hope that the death anniversary will be organized properly, both to show responsibility for the past and to affirm my belief in the troupe's development in the future.”

Amidst the changing pace of modern life, faith in the profession is the thread that connects artists with the roots of national culture, reminding them to live with heart, perform with vision, and take "trust" and "love" as the foundation.

Expectations for a new stage of development

In particular, this year’s Theatre Ancestor Commemoration Ceremony takes place in the context of the merger of Ca Mau and Bac Lieu provinces, opening a new development path for the province’s reformed theatre. Although each artist has their own aspirations, they all share the same goal: to build their homeland Ca Mau to become more and more prosperous, with culture and art flourishing.

Artists of the Huong Tram Cai Luong Troupe perform for the audience, continuing 65 years of dedication to the art of Cai Luong.

Meritorious Artist Minh Hoang expressed: "I hope that the Huong Tram Cai Luong Troupe and the Cao Van Lau Cai Luong Troupe will jointly select and train promising young talents who can sing and act well to bring a new breeze to the Cai Luong stage."

Meritorious Artist My Hanh said: “For artists, the most precious thing is to contribute to art and the revolutionary cause. We strive to bring meaningful works, contributing to preserving traditional art. We hope that leaders will pay more attention to material and spiritual conditions so that artists can feel secure in their dedication. For my part, I will continue to train and educate the next generation so that the Ca Mau reformed theater can develop further.”

Since the province's merger, the performance programs have had many new ways of coordination, creating excitement for both audiences and artists. I clearly feel a new breeze when artists gather together, bringing rich "spiritual food" to the people. Hopefully, in the coming time, there will be more exchange and connection activities in the province's key programs, such as the art program to welcome the upcoming 1st Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030" - Meritorious Artist Lich Su hopes .

The death anniversary of the founder of the stage is not only a sacred holiday for artists, but also an opportunity for the community to appreciate and preserve the beauty of national culture. With faith in the founder of the profession and the dedication and passion of artists, the Vietnamese stage will continue to be strong, so that traditional values will forever spread in the hearts of the public.
