Power outages in the North have decreased; supply meets demand in the Central and Southern regions.

On June 10, power outages in the North were eased, while power supply in the South and Central regions was still guaranteed.

Experts recommend that although the hydrological situation is more favorable and coal-fired power sources are supplemented, the hot weather situation continues to be complicated, with high demand for electricity, so hydropower plants need to operate flexibly and increase water storage in hydropower reservoirs.

On June 10, power outages in the North were eased, while power supply in the South and Central regions was still guaranteed.

According to information from the National Power System Control Center (A0), on June 10, the total available power capacity in the North reached 20,321 MW; of which the available capacity of hydropower was 5,244 MW.

The power outage in the North was reduced thanks to the mobilization of thermal power plants in the North to increase the capacity by 1,000 MW. Today, the problems at some thermal power plants (S1 Nghi Son 1 - 300 MW, Thai Binh 1 S1 - 300 MW, Quang Ninh S1 - 300 MW) were successfully resolved.

Along with that, the mobilization of renewable energy plants with a mobilized capacity of wind power is 33.9 million kWh, solar power is 70.2 million kWh. 19 transitional renewable energy plant projects with a total capacity of 1,221.12 MW.

However, according to A0's assessment, power failures still pose a high risk in many places, especially coal-fired thermal power plants due to severe heat, high load demand, and the need to continuously mobilize generators. According to statistics, the total capacity of coal-fired power plants with prolonged failures is about 3,250 MW, and the total short-term failures is 410 MW.

Meanwhile, the mobilization of hydropower plants at multi-purpose hydropower reservoirs in the North, namely Lai Chau , Son La, Ban Chat, Huoi Quang, and Tuyen Quang, has improved, due to improved water flow compared to June 8.

However, most hydropower reservoirs are still near dead water level, resulting in the inability to mobilize about 5,000 MW of source capacity.

It is forecasted that in the next few days, the North will have moderate to heavy rain, and hydroelectric reservoirs will actively accumulate water to exceed the dead water level.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnam Electricity Group are continuously urging and seeking solutions to increase the operation of thermal power sources to cope with the situation of water shortages in large hydropower reservoirs. At the same time, the units continue to implement the Prime Minister's directive on saving electricity; ensuring the supply of coal and gas for power generation; actively adding new power sources to the system; and focusing on overcoming power source problems.

People and businesses need to raise their sense of responsibility and promote programs to save electricity and water to avoid pressure on the national power system, especially in the North.
