- Summary of the model of sustainable development cooperative linking production and product consumption
- Linking to develop OCOP products in the Mekong Delta region
In the 2025 summer-autumn rice crop, the OS20 rice production linkage model was implemented by O MON Agricultural Technology Transfer Company Limited (Can Tho City) on 140 hectares in Hung Hoi commune, with the participation of more than 100 households. Over time in production, OS20 rice grew evenly, had few pests and diseases, and adapted well to soil conditions. In particular, farmers participating in the model were excited and assured about the output when the enterprise purchased all of their rice output.
Mr. Le Van Hoan (3rd from right) and O MON Agricultural Technology Transfer Company Limited visited the OS20 rice field.
At this time, farmers participating in the model have been harvesting OS20 rice. Mr. Le Van Hoan (Phu Tong hamlet, Hung Hoi commune) is excited because this rice crop has had many unfavorable weather conditions, but his rice fields still achieved unexpected yields. “I have worked on more than 46 hectares of fields with the OS20 variety, and have just harvested a portion of the rice and sold it to a consumption company. It turns out that one large hectare yields nearly a ton. The harvested rice is also consumed, I am very happy!”, Mr. Hoan shared his joy.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Quan, who lives in the same hamlet, also happily said: “I am old, only working 2 hectares of rice fields. This crop of OS20 rice has a good harvest, few pests and diseases, long and beautiful rice flowers, everyone praises. The company also guarantees the output, so I no longer worry about selling rice.”
Mr. Tran Thanh Cuong, Head of the farmer group participating in the model, said: “The OS20 rice variety has high yield, the company also supports the variety, advances capital, and purchases all rice output, so people feel secure when participating in the model. Next crop, we will definitely continue to expand the area.”
Farmers weigh and transfer OS20 rice onto boats for the company to purchase.
In addition to Hung Hoi commune, in the 2025 summer-autumn rice crop, O MON Agricultural Technology Transfer Company Limited also coordinated with the Ca Mau Provincial Agricultural Seed Center to plant an additional 50 hectares of OS20 rice at Truong Giang Cooperative (Da Bac commune). All harvested rice was purchased by the company at a price equivalent to OM18 rice. "We continue to sign a contract to link production and consumption of OS20 rice with Truong Giang Cooperative for the new rice crop. At the same time, we plan to expand the model to 150 hectares in the rice-shrimp area of Ca Mau," said Engineer Bui Xuan Ky.
In recent years, the provincial agricultural sector has focused on producing high-quality rice varieties that adapt to climate change conditions. "With many outstanding advantages, OS20 is one of the rice varieties put into production in this year's summer-autumn crop. The OS20 rice production-consumption linkage model is opening up a new direction, contributing to increasing the value of commercial rice and income for Ca Mau farmers. In the coming time, we will continue to prioritize rice production models with stable consumption linkages like this," Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Khuyen, Deputy Director of the Provincial Agricultural Seed Center, emphasized./.
