Impressive growth
In his opening speech, Mr. Ngo Vu Thang, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized: Ca Mau possesses a rich ecosystem, nearly 150,000 hectares of cajuput forest and mangrove forest. The coastal area is recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve. After the merger of Bac Lieu - Ca Mau, the development space has been expanded, creating a strong driving force for the economy, especially eco-tourism, culture, spirituality and many other potential types.
Comrade Ngo Vu Thang, Vice Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee, delivered the opening speech at the workshop.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed: "In the future, Ca Mau will make a breakthrough with a series of key national projects such as Hon Khoai Port Cluster, Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway, Ca Mau - Dat Mui connecting the bridge leading to Hon Khoai Port, Ca Mau Airport upgrade project... Together with the province's key projects, this will be a new driving force for socio-economic development, in which tourism plays an important role.
This is also the foundation for Ca Mau to affirm its position as a destination in the southernmost part of the country, following the direction of peace and harmony with nature."
After the merger, the new Ca Mau province has an area of 7,942.38 km², a population of 2.6 million people with 64 administrative units. In the first 6 months of 2025, Ca Mau welcomed 5.12 million visitors, reaching 61% of the yearly plan; total tourism revenue was 4,890 billion VND, equivalent to 57% of the plan. Although not yet superior to the 4 extreme localities of Vietnam, Ca Mau tourism is gradually affirming its position and increasing attraction.
New direction for tourism in Ca Mau
Experts and managers at the workshop analyzed domestic and international tourism trends and emphasized the urgency of positioning Ca Mau tourism brand.
Dr. Duong Duc Minh, Institute for Economic and Tourism Development Research, said that Ca Mau needs to link its development with the national context through exploiting its unique resources and network of connections. With its southernmost location in the country, where land, forest and sea converge, along with the symbiosis of Kinh, Hoa and Khmer communities and a treasure trove of unique anecdotes, Ca Mau has the advantage of creating a multi-layered tourism brand that is both familiar and different.
He also proposed that Ca Mau should develop the "Green Day and Red Night" tourism model: During the day, experience ecology, health care, environmental education, renewable energy; at night, explore the space of revolutionary memories, art and stories of Southern urban areas.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, shared some ideas for developing tourism in Ca Mau at the workshop.
Mr. Vu The Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association, emphasized: it is necessary to develop the travel system, upgrade accommodation facilities and tourism services to build and maintain the Ca Mau Tourism brand. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen promotion, initially targeting domestic tourists, then expanding to the international market; consolidate the activities of local tourism associations, connect with the Mekong Delta network and Ho Chi Minh City.

Determined to make Ca Mau tourism take off
Within the framework of the workshop, Ca Mau province launched a program to build and develop unique tourism products with 4 main groups: Cultural - ecological tourism; Cultural - historical and spiritual tourism; Cultural - culinary tourism and Solutions for developing tourism human resources.
Delegates performed the launching ceremony of the Program to build and develop typical tourism products of the province.
In his speech, Comrade Nguyen Ho Hai, Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee, affirmed: “Tourism development is one of the top priorities of the province. Tourism not only brings revenue to the local economy but also promotes the image of Ca Mau to domestic and foreign friends, while contributing to preserving and promoting the cultural, historical and natural values of the homeland”.
Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Ho Hai called on businesses and investors inside and outside the province to join hands and contribute to the development of tourism in Ca Mau.

With the solidarity and creativity of the entire political system, businesses and people, in the future, Ca Mau will not only be a destination, but will also rise to become a strong national and international tourism brand” – the Provincial Party Secretary determined.
