Expanding NAPAS Tap and Pay mobile payment service

In recent years, Vietnam has witnessed a strong explosion of digital technology, especially in the field of mobile payments. According to data from the Ministry of Science and Technology (formerly the Ministry of Information and Communications ), as of July 2024, out of 120 million mobile subscribers nationwide, up to 100.7 million mobile subscribers use smartphones.

Along with that, the trend of cashless payment is becoming more and more popular. According to the survey, 59% of users currently prioritize electronic payment methods in daily transactions; 62% of users pay online via banking applications and websites, while 48% pay via e-wallets and payment platforms.

These figures clearly reflect the shift in consumer behavior, as people prioritize fast, convenient and secure payment methods. According to the State Bank of Vietnam , in the first 7 months of 2025, non-cash payment transactions increased by 44.40% in quantity and 25.04% in value compared to the same period last year. In particular, transactions via mobile phones increased by 38.34% in quantity and 21.24% in value; transactions via QR codes increased by 66.73% in quantity and 159.58% in value.

Faced with the development potential of mobile payment methods, NAPAS has deployed the NAPAS Tap and Pay service - a modern payment solution, allowing users to digitize domestic NAPAS cards onto smart devices such as watches and phones to make touch payments without having to carry a physical card.

Accordingly, after successfully coordinating to deploy the NAPAS Apple Pay service to the market earlier this year, NAPAS has now continued to expand the service to mobile devices using the Android operating system. In addition to NAM A Bank, customers of VietinBank, Agribank and VietCredit finance company can now use NAPAS Tap and Pay on the bank's payment application (mobile banking app) quickly, conveniently and safely.

The outstanding feature of the NAPAS Tap and Pay service is the ability to make simple and easy payments with just a light touch on the payment acceptance device (POS) via NFC (Near-Field Communication). Customers only need to add a card (digitize the card), apply for NAPAS cards including debit cards, domestic credit cards, prepaid cards on the mobile banking app and make payments.

The deployment of the NAPAS Tap and Pay service not only helps banks and financial companies provide modern payment solutions to customers, saving on physical card issuance costs, but also contributes to increasing the frequency of domestic card usage, boosting sales for issuers. With more than 80 million domestic NAPAS contactless cardholders, this service also brings a faster, more secure and convenient payment experience.
