Mu Cang Chai is packed with tourists, at midnight some people still struggle to find a room

(Dan Tri) - During the last two days of the weekend (September 20-21), the number of visitors coming to see the terraced fields in Mu Cang Chai (Lao Cai) was 3-4 times higher than on September 2, causing accommodation to be "full".

Over the past two weekends, areas with beautiful terraced rice fields such as Mong Ngua and Mam Xoi hills... in the two communes of Pung Luong and Mu Cang Chai (Lao Cai province) were always crowded with tourists .

According to some people working in tourism here, the number of visitors increased 3-4 times compared to September 2.

At 4:30 p.m. on September 20, Mr. Trieu Duyen Hai (living in Hanoi ) led a group of 23 tourists from their accommodation in the center of Mu Cang Chai commune to Mong Ngua hill to watch the sunset.

Normally the journey takes about 15 minutes, but the young man and his group were in a dilemma.

The entrance to Horseshoe Hill was jammed both up and down. The heavy traffic made visitors almost stand still.

"Realizing that we could not continue moving, the group gave up and decided to turn to another path to look at the nearby rice fields. After 4 hours, the traffic jam was over," said Mr. Hai.

Having been to the terraced fields in Mu Cang Chai 7-8 times, this was the first time Mr. Hai witnessed an unimaginably large number of visitors.

According to Mr. Hai, in addition to the large number of passengers, lane encroachment and refusal to yield to each other while moving are the causes of prolonged traffic jams.

The large crowd prevented Mr. Hai's group from going up to Mong Nguu Hill (Photo: Cut from clip).

"At Mam Xoi Hill - one of the beautiful places to see rice fields - although there are many visitors, there are 2 separate entrances and exits so there is no traffic jam. At Mong Ngua Hill, I hope the authorities will arrange 2 entrances to make it more convenient for tourists," Mr. Hai suggested.

At Mam Xoi hill area, Mr. Giang Hanh Phuc (living in Mu Cang Chai) was overwhelmed by the sudden increase in the number of visitors coming to see the rice fields.

According to Mr. Phuc, the road leading to Mam Xoi Hill is congested on weekend afternoons. If you go in the morning, it will be easier for visitors to move around.

“Every year, around mid-September, tourists flock to Mu Cang Chai. This year, as the race is about to take place, the rice fields are ripe and beautiful, the number of visitors has increased sharply…”, the young man said.

Due to the large number of visitors, many accommodations in Mu Cang Chai were "sold out" last weekend.

Ms. Thu Uyen (Owner of Suoi Kim 2 homestay in Pung Luong commune) said that famous and popular accommodation places were all fully booked on the weekend. Some stilt house-style homestays still had rooms available, but the number was very limited.

"Some guests did not book accommodation in advance, so at 11pm they still called everywhere, asking to rent rooms. My family's accommodation was fully booked for the September weekend two months ago. All 7 rooms and 1 stilt house were full," Thu Uyen said.

According to this owner, her homestay is still fully booked on Monday and Tuesday. There are still some rooms left in the middle of the week but they are all sold out.

To avoid overload, the girl said, tourists should arrange to go midweek to avoid overload.

The rice fields are still beautiful until the end of October, so visitors should not rush to visit at the same time. In addition to Mong Ngua and Mam Xoi hills, people can see the rice fields in Kim Noi, Che Cu Nha, and De Xu Phinh...

Regarding accommodation, Ms. Uyen recommends that tourists should not stay in the center of Mu Cang Chai commune or Kim intersection, but should choose homestays around the commune. Tourists should order food at their accommodation to avoid waiting at restaurants and eateries.
