Dramatic images capture the moment a young man was successfully rescued after drifting for three days at sea by jet ski in the Canary Islands (Spain).
The victim, Layonel Ramirez Collado, 23, went missing on the evening of September 29 in the waters off the coast of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. What the victim could not have expected was that an outing with friends would end in disaster.

Information published by Spanish media on October 5th shows that Collado's group of friends were going for a boat ride on the beach on the evening of September 29th when his jet ski slipped off the boat.
Collado jumped into the sea to tow the craft back. But then he decided to drive it back to Castillo del Romeral alone. However, the jet ski suddenly broke down mid-way, causing him to be swept out to sea by strong winds and currents.
When Collado's friend did not return on time, the team notified the rescue team at around 11pm that same day. An urgent search operation was launched with the participation of patrol boats, helicopters, coastal search teams, and Collado's relatives and friends.
After three days missing, around noon on October 1, Sasemar Maritime Rescue discovered Collado alive. He signaled for help on a jet ski. Immediately after, the victim was taken to a rescue boat and returned to the mainland amid the cheers and applause of relatives waiting on shore.
Rescuers said Collado was found about 30km southwest of the Spanish island of Gran Canaria. He was taken to the port of Arguineguin for a health check.
After three days drifting at sea, the young man only suffered minor scratches and body aches from lying on the jet ski for too long. However, the victim remained stable and conscious.
Collado’s family said they were disappointed with the rescue operation. They said the nighttime search was limited. The initial search area was focused near the shore, when they believed their son had been swept far out to sea. In fact, Collado was found 30km from shore, as they feared.

The incident has attracted a lot of attention from the local people. Some even volunteered to use private fishing boats to help. However, this was refused by the authorities for safety reasons.
Despite the controversy, Collado's survival after three days adrift at sea was considered a miracle. His mother, Natividad Collado, burst into tears of emotion.
"I always believed that my son would not give up. He clung to the jet ski and thanks to that, his life was saved during the days drifting at sea," the mother said.
Collado's grandfather was also one of those who stood by the shore constantly waiting for news of his grandson. Only when he knew his grandson had returned home safely did he feel relieved.
"He said his back hurt a little, but everything was fine. He even encouraged us. The whole family was in tears of joy," the grandfather shared.
Meanwhile, the male tourist’s friends all confirmed that Collado was always strong in all circumstances and would fight to the end. He is now receiving medical care and resting with his family after his life-and-death journey at sea.
