Defendants: Nguyen Tien Dung (left) and Nguyen Ngoc Tuyen at the trial.

On the afternoon of May 30, the Provincial People's Court held an online trial of the first instance case of Nguyen Tien Dung (born in 1998, residing in Dong Vinh village, Kim Song Truong commune, Can Loc district) and Nguyen Ngoc Tuyen (born in 1994, residing in Doc Lap commune, Hung Ha district, Thai Binh province) for the crime of "Human trafficking". The defendants were present at the Dong Nai Provincial Police Detention Center.

According to the indictment of the Provincial People's Procuracy, during his time working in Cambodia, Nguyen Ngoc Tuyen exchanged, discussed, and coordinated with Tran Duc Anh (born in 1987, residing in residential group 9, Tran Phu ward, Ha Tinh city - currently not present in the locality, unknown whereabouts) and Nguyen Tien Dung to trick Vietnamese people into going to Cambodia to sell to a Chinese man who is the owner of a card game and betting company in Sihanouk city (Cambodia), with a WeChat account named "K", in order to control, coerce, and exploit labor for illegal benefits.

From November 20, 2021 to November 26, 2021, Nguyen Tien Dung provided false information, defrauded 9 victims in Ha Tinh, then transferred them to Nguyen Ngoc Tuyen and Tran Duc Anh to take to Cambodia to receive a total of 206 million VND. After that, Tuyen sold 9 victims to "K" to receive a total of more than 221 million VND.

The 9 victims paid ransom, were rescued or fled to Vietnam and asked the subjects to compensate for damages totaling more than 547 million VND. However, to date, the victims have not been compensated.

The jury questioned the defendants.

Regarding personal background, Nguyen Tien Dung and Nguyen Ngoc Tuyen were each sentenced to 12 years in prison by the People’s Court of Dong Nai province for “Human trafficking”. Both defendants are currently being detained at the Dong Nai Provincial Police Detention Center.

Regarding the criminal acts of Nguyen Tien Dung and Nguyen Ngoc Tuyen, because the Supreme People's Procuracy has not yet received the results of mutual assistance from the Kingdom of Cambodia, there is not enough basis to handle the subjects "K" and Tran Duc Anh.

Pursuant to the provisions of the Criminal Law, the People's Court of Ha Tinh Province sentenced Nguyen Tien Dung and Nguyen Ngoc Tuyen to 15 years in prison each; combined with the 12-year prison sentence each previously imposed by the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City, the two defendants were sentenced to a total of 54 years in prison (27 years each) for the crime of "Human trafficking".
