Echoes of "Red Rain"
When it comes to the line historical films After the war, after the work "Red Rain", Dr. Doan Van Bau - Head of the Department of Political Theory, Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission - assessed that to have a success like "Red Rain", first of all, we must mention the attention and close direction of the leaders and related units. In addition, "Red Rain" has been invested in meticulously, wholeheartedly, touching the hearts of the audience.
Timing also contributed to the success of “Red Rain”. This year, the country celebrates many important events, including the A80 anniversary, an opportunity to look back on history and pay tribute to those who made the victory possible.
Dr. Doan Van Bau hopes that after “Red Rain” there will be many new works with diverse perspectives on the topic of war. This is a big and sacred topic that needs to be expanded into stories with rich, multi-dimensional perspectives.
Colonel Kieu Thanh Thuy - Deputy Director of the People's Army Cinema - shared with Lao Dong reporter, Colonel Kieu Thanh Thuy said: "After "Red Rain", we will continue to search and exploit war - historical themes. To have a good film, first of all, we must start with a good script.
Therefore, the People's Army Cinema plans to launch script writing contests on the theme of revolutionary war and the image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the new era to search for, nurture and build a source of quality scripts for this topic.
In addition, if there are valuable novels and literary works, rich in ideas and emotions, they can be considered for film adaptation. Of course, all works must be approved by the Art Council to evaluate their suitability and ability to be translated into film language. If they meet the requirements, we are ready to carry out the adaptation to enrich the film collection on the theme of revolutionary war and soldiers today.
Spread the message
Recently, “Red Rain” was selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to compete for the Oscar. When asked about this, Colonel Kieu Thanh Thuy confided: “This is truly a great joy for military cinema and the entire crew. From the beginning, when we started producing the film, we did not put too much expectation on revenue or box office performance. The most important thing is to convey the spirit of the film: educating the tradition of patriotism, the spirit of fighting and sacrifice, the desire to live and the value of peace of the Vietnamese people. When the film was selected for the Oscar, we only hope that international friends will know more about Vietnamese history, understand more about the spirit of the Vietnamese people. The award is not the only goal, but the spreading of the message.”
About historical films, Regarding war films, Colonel Kieu Thanh Thuy believes: “The film “Red Rain” shows that today’s youth have great interest and pride in the nation’s history. Nothing is as powerful and intimate as the language of cinema. It not only tells a story, but also instills in the audience a passionate patriotism, gratitude for the sacrifices of our ancestors, and a sense of responsibility for today’s generation. I believe that, in this digital age, if seriously invested, this genre of film will continue to promote its strength, connect the patriotic spirit of the youth and arouse civic responsibility in the new era.”
Experts and critics in the film industry expect that in the near future, both state and private film studios will have more development plans and invest more in war and historical projects after the victory of “Red Rain”. Hopefully, this will be a turning point, so that war and historical films will no longer be classified as a difficult-to-watch, selective-audience, and loss-making genre.
